Micro-17 (140-1178) Care and Maintenance Faxback Doc. # 9844 The Radio Shack Micro-17 Voice-Activated Microcassette Tape Recorder is an example of superior design and craftsmanship. The following suggestions will help you care for your Micro-17 so you can enjoy it for years. Keep the Micro-17 dry. If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately. Liquids can contain minerals that can corrode the electronic circuits. Use and store the Micro-17 only in normal temperature environments. Temperature extremes can shorten the life of electronic devices, damage batteries, and distort or melt plastic parts. Handle the Micro-17 carefully. Dropping it can damage circuit boards and cases, and can cause the Micro-17 to work improperly. Keep the Micro-17 away from dust and dirt, which can cause premature wear of parts. Wipe the Micro-17 with a damp cloth occasionally to keep it looking new. Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or strong detergents to clean it. Modifying or tampering with the Micro-17's internal components can cause a malfunction and might invalidate its warranty and void your FCC authorization to operate it. If your Micro-17 is not performing as it should, take it to your local Radio Shack store for assistance. CLEANING THE TAPE-HANDLING PARTS Dirt, dust, or particles of the tape's coating can accumulate on the tape heads and other parts that the tape touches. This can greatly reduce the Micro-17's performance. To prevent noise and poor high-frequency response, clean the Micro-17's tape-handling parts after every 20 hours of use. Your local Radio Shack store sells cleaning kits. 1. Press STOP/EJECT. 2. Remove the batteries and disconnect any power source. 3. Press STOP/EJECT again to open the microcassette compartment cover. 4. Press PLAY to expose the tape-handling parts. 5. Use a cotton swab dipped in tape head cleaning solution or denatured alcohol to gently clean the capstan, pinch roller, and tape head. (br/all-02/28/95)
