SCP-51 (140-1091) Installation Faxback Doc. # 9859 BATTERY OPERATION 1. Press down on the battery compartment cover and slide it off. 2. Install 2 AA batteries, matching the polarity symbols (+ and -) marked on the diagram beside the battery compartment. We recommend alkaline batteries, such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-552. 3. Replace the battery compartment cover. Notes: Never mix battery types (old and new, alkaline and carbon zinc, rechargeable and non-rechargeable). Replace both batteries at the same time. If the player is not going to be used for a week or more, remove the batteries to avoid possible damage from leaking batteries. USING HEADPHONES Before connecting the headphones, turn VOLUME to its lowest setting. Then plug the headphones into the PHONES (HEADPHONE SYMBOL) jack. Adjust VOLUME to a comfortable listening level. Your local Radio Shack store has a complete line of headphones to choose from. Listening Safely To protect your hearing, follow these guidelines when you use headphones. Do not listen at extremely high volume levels. Extended high volume listening can lead to permanent hearing loss. Set the volume to its lowest level before you begin listening. After you put on the headphones, adjust the volume to a comfortable listening level. Do not increase the volume once you have established a comfortable listening level. Over time your ears adapt to the listening level, so a volume level that does not cause discomfort might still damage your hearing. Traffic Safety Do not wear headphones while operating a motor vehicle or riding a bicycle. This can cause a traffic hazard and is illegal in some areas. Even though some headphones are designed to let you hear outside sounds when you listen at normal volume levels, they still present a traffic hazard. USING THE BELT CLIP For hands-free carrying, slide the belt clip over your belt. To remove the belt clip, press down on the arrow and slide the clip in the direction of the arrow. To replace the belt clip, place it in the recessed area and slide it in the opposite direction of the arrow until it snaps into place. (br/all-02/28/95)
