SCP-51 (140-1091) Hints and Tips Faxback Doc. # 9861 STORING CASSETTE TAPES Do not expose cassette tapes to : High temperature High humidity Dust or dirt Motors, transformers, or other sources of strong magnetic fields. DEMAGNETIZING THE TAPE HEAD For the best sound quality, we recommend that you demagnetize the tape head once every 20 hours of use. Use a tape head demagnetizer such as Cat. No. 44-1165. CORRECTING TAPE TENSION After you play a cassette several times, the tape can become tightly wound, causing distortion. To restore the correct tension, fast forward through the entire cassette. Then completely rewind it. CLEANING THE TAPE-HANDLING PARTS Smoke, dust, or particles can accumulate on the tape-handling parts. This greatly reduces the cassette player's performance. We recommend you clean the tape handling parts every 20 hours of operation. Disconnect the power adapter and remove the batteries. Then press play to expose the capstan, pinch roller, and tape head. Clean these parts with a cotton swab dipped in tape-head cleaning solution or denatured alcohol. When you finish, press STOP to release the tape- handling parts. Your local Radio Shack store has a complete line of cassette player cleaning supplies. (br/all-02/28/95)
