CTR-83 (140-0758) Operation Faxback Doc. # 9871 LISTENING TO THE RADIO 1. Set VOLUME control to minimum volume position. 2. Set the FUNCTION selector switch to the desired position (AM or FM). 3. Adjust the VOLUME control to a comfortable listening level. 4. Use the tuning control to locate the desired station. 5. For best FM reception, extend the telescopic antenna to its full length. 6. Move or rotate the radio for best AM reception. (The AM antenna is built-in.) 7. Set the FUNCTION selector switch to TAPE/RADIO OFF when the radio/ recorder is not in use. PLAYING A TAPE 1. Set the VOLUME control to minimum volume position. 2. Set the FUNCTION switch to TAPE/RADIO OFF. 3. Press [STOP/EJECT] to open the cassette compartment door. 4. Insert a cassette in the compartment with the open side up and the full reel toward the right. 5. Close the cassette compartment door and press [PLAY]. 6. Adjust the VOLUME to a comfortable listening level. 7. Press [FAST-F] to advance the tape rapidly. To stop advancing the tape, press [STOP/EJECT]. Then, to resume play, press [PLAY]. 8. Press [REWIND] to rewind the tape rapidly. To stop rewinding the tape, press [STOP/EJECT]. Then, to resume play, press [PLAY]. In the PLAY and RECORD modes, if you let the tape run to the end, the recorder automatically stops. USING PAUSE The [PAUSE] button is convenient for editing material during recording (eliminating commercials in a broadcast or pauses in dictation), or for temporarily stopping a tape while it is playing. Press [PAUSE] for a temporary stop. Press [PAUSE] again to resume recording or playing. RECORDING Recording From the Radio 1. Set the FUNCTION selector switch to the desired position (AM or FM). 2. Use the tuning control to locate the desired station. 3. Pres [STOP/EJECT] to open the cassette compartment door. Then load a blank cassette, or one you want to record over, and close the cassette compartment door. 4. Press [RECORD]. 5. The level-control circuitry automatically adjusts the recording level. 6. When you monitor the recording, adjust the VOLUME control to a comfortable listening level. 7. To stop recording, press [STOP/EJECT]. To remove the cassette, press [STOP/EJECT] again. If you choose to let the recording continue, recording and tape movement automatically stop at the end of the tape. Recording With the Built-In Microphone 1. Set the FUNCTION switch to TAPE. 2. Press [STOP/EJECT] to open the cassette compartment door. Load a blank cassette, or one you want to record over. Close the cassette compartment door. 3. Press [RECORD].
