Stereo Cassette Player (140-0864) Operation Faxback Doc. # 9900 INSTALLING BATTERIES The cassette player is powered by two AA batteries (not supplied). For the longest life, we recommend alkaline batteries such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-552. 1. Slide down the battery compartment cover and lift it open. 2. Install two AA batteries as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and-) marked inside the battery compartment. Cautions: Use only fresh batteries of the required size and type. Always remove old or weak batteries. They can leak chemicals that can destroy electronic circuits. Do not mix alkaline and non-alkaline batteries. This could damage the cassette player. 3. Close the cover and be sure it snaps shut. Notes: When the tape speed, slows or the volume weakens, replace the batteries. If the cassette player will not be used for several days, remove the batteries. ATTACHING THE REMOVABLE STRAP Caution: Do not attach the strap if very young children will be using the cassette player. The strap could become tangled around a small neck. Follow these steps to attach the strap. 1. Push up the strap buckles about two inches from the strap ends. 2. Pull the straps ends through the slots. 3. Pull up on the strap ends and insert them into the back of the strap buckles. 4. Pull the strap ends through the top of the buckles far enough to keep the strap from slipping. To shorten the strap for hand carrying, slide the two buckles together. To lengthen the strap for shoulder carrying, slide the two buckles apart. PLAYING A CASSETTE TAPE 1. Listening Safety Follow these guidelines to protect your hearing when you use headphones. Set the volume to the lowest setting before you begin listening. After you begin listening, adjust the volume to a comfortable level. Do not listen at extremely high volume levels. Extended high-volume listening can lead to permanent hearing loss. Once you set the volume, do not increase it, Over time, your ears adapt to the volume level, so a volume level that does not cause discomfort might still damage your hearing. TRAFFIC SAFETY Do not wear headphones while operating a motor vehicle or riding a bicycle. This can create a traffic hazard and is illegal in some areas. Even though some headphones are designed to let you hear some outside sounds when listening at normal volume levels, they still present a traffic hazard. USING THE BELT CLIP For hands-free carrying, slide the belt clip over your belt. (LB/all-02/28/95)
