SCR-54 (140-0745) Power Sources Faxback Doc. # 9913 You can power the SCR-54 from any of these power sources: Six C batteries (not supplied) Standard AC power with the supplied AC power cord 12-volt vehicle battery power with an optional DC adapter. INTERNAL BATTERY POWER You can power SCR-54 from six C batteries (not supplied). We recommend alkaline batteries, such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-551. 1. Remove the battery compartment cover by pressing both tabs and lifting off the cover. 2. Install the batteries as indicated by the polarity symbol (+ and -) marked outside the compartment. 3. Replace the cover. Note: If the recorder's sound becomes distorted or weak, or the recorder does not work properly, replace the batteries. Caution: Dead or weak batteries can leak chemicals that could damage your recorder. If you do not plan to use the recorder for a week or more, remove the batteries from the battery compartment. USING AC POWER Use the supplied AC power cord to power the SCR-54 from standard AC power. 1. Remove the battery compartment cover by pressing both tabs and lifting off the cover. 2. Pull out the AC power cord from the battery compartment. 3. Route the power cord through the slot on the battery compartment cover and replace the cover. 4. Set DC/AC to AC and plug the power cord into a standard AC outlet. Note: Switching DC/AC to AC automatically disconnects the internal batteries. Caution: To prevent electric shock, the plug's blades are polarized and fit only one way. If the plug will not fit easily, turn it over and try again. Do not force it. USING VEHICLE BATTERY POWER You can use your vehicle's battery to power the SCR-54 with a DC adapter (not supplied), such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 273-1802. Cautions: Your vehicle must have a 12-volt DC, negative ground electrical system. You must use a DC adapter that supplies 9 volts and delivers at least 500 milliamps. Its center tip must be set to negative, and its barrel plug must correctly fit the recorder's DC 9V jack. The recommended adapter meets these specifications. Using an adapter that does not meet these specifications could seriously damage the recorder or the adapter Always plug the adapter into the recorder before you plug it into the cigarette-lighter socket, and always unplug the adapter from the cigarette-lighter socket before you unplug it from the recorder. Otherwise, the unconnected plug might touch metal in the vehicle or the vehicle's electrical system. Follow these steps to use vehicle battery power: 1. Set the adapter's voltage switch to 9V. 2. Insert the adapter's barrel plug into the recorder's DC 9V jack. 3. Set DC/AC to DC and plug the adapter's large plug into the vehicle's cigarette-lighter socket. (LB/all-03/01/95)
