CTR-94 (140-0726) Power Sources Faxback Doc. # 9928 You can operate the CTR-94 using: Internal battery power (using four C batteries) AC power (using an optional AC adapter) Vehicle battery power (using an optional DC adapter) INTERNAL BATTERY POWER You can power the CTR-94 from four C batteries. For the best results, we recommend alkaline batteries such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-551 (not supplied). If the CTR-94 does not operate properly or if the sound weakens or distorts, replace the batteries. 1. Press Down on the tabs above the battery compartment cover and pull the cover down to remove it. 2. Remove the old batteries, if necessary. Cautions: Always dispose of the old batteries promptly and properly. Never leave dead, old, or weak batteries in the CTR-94. They can leak chemicals and corrode or damage electronic circuits. If you do not plan to use the CTR-94 for a month or more, or if you plan to use external AC or DC power, remove the batteries to protect the CTR-94 from possible battery leakage. 3. Place four C batteries in the compartment as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and -) marked in the compartment. Cautions: Use only fresh batteries of the required size and type. Never mix fresh with old batteries. 4. Replace the battery compartment cover. AC POWER You can power the CTR-94 from standard AC power, using an optional AC adapter such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 273-1662 (not supplied). Cautions: You must use an AC adapter that supplies 6 volts and delivers at least 300 milliamps. Its center tip must be set to negative, and its plug must correctly fit the system's DC 6V jack. The recommended adapter meets these specification. Using an AC adapter that does not meet these specifications could seriously damage the CTR-94 or the adapter. Always plug the adapter into the CTR-94 before you plug it into the AC outlet, and always unplug the adapter from the AC outlet before you unplug it from the CTR-94. 1. Insert the AC adapter's barrel plug into the DC 6V jack on the back of the CTR-94. 2. Plug the adapter into a standard AC outlet. Note: The internal batteries automatically disconnect when you connect the AC adapter to the CTR-94's DC 6V jack. VEHICLE BATTERY POWER You can power the CTR-94 from your vehicle's battery power using an optional DC adapter, such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 273-1802 (not supplied). Cautions: The vehicle must have a 12-volt DC, negative-ground electrical system. The recommended DC adapter supplies 6 volts and delivers at least 300 milliamps. Its center tip is set to negative, and its plug correctly fits the CTR-94's DC 6V jack. Using a DC adapter that does not meet these specifications could seriously damage the CTR-94 or the adapter. Always plug the adapter into the CTR-94 before you plug it into the cigarette-lighter socket, and always unplug the adapter from the cigarette-lighter socket before you unplug it from the CTR-94. 1. Set the DC adapter's voltage to 6V. 2. Insert the DC adapter's barrel plug into the CTR-94's DC 6V jack. 3. Insert the other end of the adapter into your vehicle's cigarette- lighter socket.
