SCR-55 (140-0731) Installation Faxback Doc. # 9954 POWER CONNECTIONS You can operate the SCR-55 using any of the following power sources. Internal Battery Power Household AC power 12-volt vehicle battery power (with optional adapter) INTERNAL BATTERY POWER You can power your SCR-55 from six C batteries. We recommend alkaline batteries such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-551 (not supplied). 1. Press down on the tabs and remove the battery compartment cover. 2. Insert the batteries as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and -) marked on the outside of the compartment. 3. Replace the cover. 4. Set AC/DC to DC. Notes: When the sound becomes weak, replace the batteries. Never leave dead or weak batteries in the SCR-55. Batteries can leak chemicals which can damage it. If you are not going to use the SCR-55 for a month or more or if you operate it only with AC power, remove the batteries. AC POWER Follow these steps to power the SCR-55 from a standard AC outlet. 1. Set AC/DC to AC. 2. Press down on the tabs and remove the battery compartment cover. 3. Remove the AC power cord from the battery compartment and route it through the compartment's slot. 4. Replace the cover. 5. Plug the cord into a standard AC outlet. Note: The plug's blades are polarized (one blade is wider than the other) and fit only one way. If the plug will not fit easily, turn it over and try again. Do not force it. VEHICLE BATTERY POWER To power the SCR-55 from your vehicle's battery power, you need a DC adapter such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 273-1802. Cautions: The vehicle must have a 12-volt DC, negative-ground electrical system. You must use a DC adapter that supplies 9 volts and delivers at least 500 milliamps. Its center tip must be set to negative, and it must have a plug that properly fits the SCR-55's DC 9V jack. Using an adapter that does not meet these specifications could damage the SCR-55. Always plug the adapter into the SCR-55 before you plug it into the cigarette-lighter socket, and always unplug the adapter from the cigarette-lighter before you unplug it from the SCR-55. Follow these steps to use vehicle battery power. 1. Set AC/DC to DC. 2. Set the adapter's voltage to 9V. 3. Insert the adapter's barrel plug into the SCR-55's DC 9V jack. 4. Insert the other end of the adapter into your car's cigarette-lighter socket. (br/all-03/06/95)
