ERASE PROTECTION TABS

Most cassette tapes have two erase protection tabs-one for each side of
the tape.  When a tab is in place, you can record on that tape side.  When
the tab is not in place, you cannot record on that side.

When you want to permanently keep a recording, break out the erase-
protection tabs with a screwdriver or similar object.  This prevents
RECORD from being pressed.

If you later decide to record on the tape, place a piece of strong tape
over the slots.

Notes:  When covering the holes, cover only the position that was
        originally protected by the plastic tab.

        Removing the erase-protection tabs does not prevent a bulk eraser
        from erasing the tape.

ERASING A CASSETTE TAPE

To record over a cassette tape, simply record as usual.  The cassette deck
records over the previous recording.  To erase the entire cassette tape,
let the tape record to the end.

You can quickly erase both sides of a cassette tape using a bulk tape
eraser, such as Cat. No. 44-233 (not supplied) available at your local
Radio Shack store.

CLEANING THE TAPE HANDLING PARTS

To prevent noise and poor high-frequency response, clean each deck's tape
handling parts after every 20 hours of use.

Tape head cleaning supplies are available at your local Radio Shack store.

1.  Set FUNCTION to TAPE.

2.  Press Tape 1's PLAY button to expose its playback head.

3.  Press down and hold Tape 2's erase-protection tab sensor, and press
    Tape 2's RECORD.  This exposes Tape 2's record/playback head and
    erase head.

4.  Use a cotton swab dipped in tape head cleaning solution or denatured
    alcohol to gently clean the capstans, pinch rollers, and tape heads.
