SCR-60 (140-0707) Installation Faxback Doc. # 9961 POWER SOURCES You can power the SCR-60 from any of the following power sources: Internal battery power Standard AC power 12 volt vehicle battery power (requires a DC adapter, not included) INTERNAL BATTERY POWER You can power your SCR-60 from six C batteries (not supplied). We recommend alkaline batteries such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-551. 1. Remove the battery compartment cover by pressing both tabs and lifting off the cover. 2. Install six C batteries as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and -) marked inside the battery compartment. 3. Replace the battery compartment cover. Note: If the recorder's sound becomes distorted or weak, or the recorder does not work normally, replace the batteries. Caution: Dead or weak batteries can leak chemicals that could damage your recorder. If you do not plan to use the recorder for a week or more, remove the batteries from the battery compartment. USING AC POWER Use the supplied AC power cord to power the SCR-60 from standard AC POWER. 1. Connect the AC cord's small plug to the recorder's 120V 60Hz jack. 2. Insert the AC cord's larger plug into a standard household outlet. Note: Connecting the AC power cord automatically disconnects the internal batteries. Cautions: Always plug the power cord into the recorder before you plug it into the electrical outlet, and always unplug the cord from the electrical outlet before you unplug it from the recorder's 120V 60Hz jack. To prevent electric shock, the plug's blades are polarized and fit only one way. If the plug will not fit easily, turn it over and try again. Do not force it. Never use with an extension cord unless the plug can be fully inserted. Do not attempt to defeat this safety precaution. USING VEHICLE BATTERY POWER You can use your vehicle's battery to power the SCR-60. This requires a DC adapter (not supplied), such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 270-1562. Cautions: Your vehicle must have a 12-volt DC, negative-ground electrical system. Always plug the adapter to the recorder before you plug it into the electrical outlet, and always unplug the adapter from the cigarette-lighter socket before you unplug it from the recorder. Otherwise, the unconnected plug might touch some metal in the vehicle and damage the adapter or the vehicle's electrical system. You must use a DC adapter that supplies 9 volts and delivers at least 650 milliamps. Its center tip must be set to negative, and its barrel plug must correctly fit the recorder's 9V jack. Using an adapter that does not meet these specifications could seriously damage the recorder or the adapter. Follow these steps to use vehicle battery power. 1. Set the adapter's voltage switch to 9V. 2. Insert the adapter's barrel plug into the recorder's DC 9V jack. 3. Plug the adapter's large plug into the vehicle's cigarette-lighter socket.
