Chronomatic-303 (120-1603) Operation Faxback Doc. # 9976 SETTING THE TIME 1. While holding down TIME SET, repeatedly press HOUR until the correct hour appears. You can press and hold down HOUR to rapidly advance the hours. Note: The PM indicator on the display lights when you set the time to a PM hour. 2. While holding down TIME SET, repeatedly press MINUTE until the correct minute appears. You can press and hold down MINUTE to rapidly advance the minutes. USING THE ALARM Setting the Alarm Time 1. While holding down ALARM SET, repeatedly press HOUR until the desired alarm hour appears. You can press and hold down HOUR to rapidly advance the hours. Note: The PM indicator on the display lights when you set the alarm time to a PM hour. 2. While holding down ALARM SET, repeatedly press MINUTE until the desired minute appears. You can press and hold down MINUTE to rapidly advance the minutes. 3. To display the alarm time, press ALARM SET. TURNING ON THE ALARM 1. Set ON/OFF/AUTO to AUTO. The alarm indicator lights on the display. 2. To hear the alarm buzzer at the preset alarm time, set MUSIC/ALARM to ALARM. To hear the radio at the preset alarm time, set MUSIC/ALARM to MUSIC. Then set CD/RADIO to RADIO. Note: Be sure you tune your radio to a station with a strong broadcast signal. Weak reception causes the alarm buzzer to sound instead of the radio at the preset alarm time. To hear a CD at the preset alarm time, set MUSIC/ALARM to MUSIC. Then set CD/RADIO to CD and load a CD. (See "Using the CD Player.") To turn off the alarm buzzer, radio, or CD player, press ALARM OFF. Slide ON/OFF/AUTO to AUTO to hear the alarm again in 24 hours. USING SNOOZE Press SNOOZE to silence the alarm for 9 minutes. Then the alarm sounds again and the alarm's volume increases gradually. You can repeat the snooze cycle for up to two hours. USING THE SLEEP FEATURE You can set the radio or CD player to play from a minimum of one minute to a maximum of one hour and 59 minutes before it automatically turns off. 1. Set ON/OFF/AUTO to OFF. 2. Set CD/RADIO to CD or RADIO and load a CD, if necessary (see "Using the CD Player"). 3. Press SLEEP. 0:58 briefly appears on the display, the radio or CD plays, and radio automatically turns off after 58 minutes. 4. To set the sleep timer to less than 58 minutes, press and hold down SLEEP. The minutes count down (57, 56, 55...) until you release SLEEP. To set the sleep timer for more than 58 minutes, press and hold down SLEEP. The minutes count down (57, 56, 55...). when the sleep timer reaches 0:00, if then shifts to 1:59. The minutes count down (1:58, 1:57, 1:56...). Continue to press and hold down SLEEP if you want to set the sleep timer for less than one hour and 59 minutes. To turn the radio or CD off before it automatically turns off, press SNOOZE. USING THE RADIO 1. To turn on the radio, set ON/OFF AUTO to ON. Then set CD/RADIO to RADIO. 2. Set FM STEREO/FM/AM to the desired band. Note: When you set FM STEREO/FM/AM to FM STEREO, the FM STEREO indicator lights whenever you tune to an FM stereo broadcast. 3. Turn TUNING to the desired station. Notes: To improve reception of weak FM stations, set FM STEREO/FM/AM to FM. The sound is not in stereo, but the reception should improve. The AM antenna is built-in. For the best AM reception, move your Chronomatic-303 to the position that produces the best sound. 4. Adjust VOLUME to a comfortable listening level. 5. To turn off the radio, set ON/OFF/AUTO to OFF. USING HEADPHONES You can listen to the Chronomatic-303 with headphones (not supplied) that have a 1/8-inch plug. Your local Radio Shack store sells a wide selection of headphones. To connect headphones, insert the headphones' 1/8-inch plug into the PHONES jack. LISTENING SAFETY To protect your hearing, follow these guidelines when you use headphones. Set the volume to the lowest setting before you listening. After you begin listening, adjust the volume to a comfortable level. Do not listen at extremely high volume levels. Extended high-volume listening can lead to permanent hearing loss. Once you set the volume, do not increase it. Over time, your ears adapt to the volume level, so a volume level that does not cause discomfort might still damage your hearing. USING THE CD PLAYER Follow these steps to load and play a compact disc. 1. Set ON/OFF/AUTO to ON. 2. Set CD/RADIO to CD. 00 flashes on the display for about 10 seconds, then CD appears. 3. Press OPEN. The CD compartment opens. 00 appears on the display. 4. Place a CD in the compartment with the label side facing up. 5. Close the compartment door. 00 flashes on the display for about 5 seconds. The total number of tracks displays for another 10 seconds, then 0 appears. 6. Press PLAY/PAUSE. 1 appears on the display, then all the tracks play in order. Note: You can pause a CD during play by pressing PLAY/PAUSE. The track number flashes on the display and the CD stops playing. To resume play, press PLAY/PAUSE again. The track number stops flashing and the CD plays. 7. The CD automatically stops after it plays all the tracks. To stop the CD before the end of the last track, press STOP. 8. To turn off the CD player, set ON/OFF/AUTO to OFF. AUTOMATIC SEARCH MUSIC SYSTEM (ASMS) You can use the automatic search music system to skip forward or backward through tracks on a CD. During play, press SKIP>> to jump to the beginning of the track or SKIP << to jump to the beginning of the current track. Repeatedly press SKIP >> or SKIP<< to jump forward or backward through additional tracks. (LB/all-03/06/95)
