While the clock is displayed, repeatedly press TUNE + until the display shows the correct minute. To quickly advance the minute, press and hold down TUNE +. RESETTING THE STEREO'S DISPLAY If the stereo's display locks up or does not work properly, use something sharp, such as a straightened paper clip, to press RESET for about 1 second. PLAYING THE RADIO 1. Push POWER/VOLUME to turn on the stereo. 2. Press BND to select between the two AM and three FM bands. AMI or AMII appears on the display when an AM band is selected. FMI, FMII, or FMIII appears on the display when an FM band is selected. When you turn off the stereo, then turn it back on, the radio automatically tunes to the last station and band you selected. 3. Tune to the desired station. Manual Tuning: Repeatedly press TUNE + or - to tune up or down the selected band. Seek Tuning: Press SEK to tune to the next higher station with a strong signal. NOTES: ST and interlocking circles appear on the display when an FM stereo signal is received. To improve reception of weak stations, press LOC. LOC appears on the display. If the stereo does not find a strong station when seeking, it searches the band again until it finds one or until you press SEK again. 4. Adjust POWER/VOLUME, BAL, FADER, BASS and TREBLE, as desired. NOTES: To temporarily display the time, press DSP. The display shows the time for 5 seconds, then returns to the frequency display. To change the display's backlight color, press and hold down ILL (illuminate) for about 1 second. The display changes from amber to green, or from green to amber. MEMORY TUNING You can store up to 12 AM and 18 FM stations in memory. Manually Storing Stations 1. Press BND to select the desired band (AMI, AMII, FMI, FMII, or FMIII). 2. Use either of the tuning methods described in Step 3 of "Using the Radio" to tune to the station you want to store. 3. Press and hold the desired memory location button until the stereo beeps twice. The band number, the frequency, and the memory location number and CH appear on the display to show that the station is stored. Automatically Storing Stations You can let the stereo automatically store stations. Then you can select a stored station by pressing the correct memory location button. 1. Press BND to select the desired band (AMI, AMII, FMI, FMII, or FMIII). 2. Press and hold down AMS (automatic memory scan) for about 2 seconds. The stereo beeps twice, scans the selected band, then automatically stores the first six strong stations it finds. The band number, the frequency, the memory location number, and CH appear on the display. After the stereo stores the first six stations it finds into the selected band's memory, it automatically selects the next band of the same type (AM or FM) and stores the next six stations it finds. For example, if you selected FMI in Step 1, the stereo stores six more stations in FMII, then stores six more station in FMIII. NOTES: After the stereo scans and stores all strong stations, it then seeks again for weaker stations and stores them in any remaining memory locations. If the stereo does not find enough stations to fill both AM bands or all three FM bands while seeking, it tunes to the first stored station in AMI or FMI and begins to play. 3. Press AMS when the stereo has stored all the stations you want. NOTE: If you do not press AMS, the stereo scans all bands again and tunes to each stored station for about 5 seconds. Selecting a Stored Station To select a stored station, press BND to select the correct memory group, then press the desired memory location button. CAUTION: Do not hold down the memory location button. This stores the currently tuned station into that location. Scanning Stored Stations The automatic memory scan (AMS) scans all stored stations in both AM bands or all three FM bands, pausing for 5 seconds at each station. 1. To start automatic memory scan, briefly press AMS. As the stereo scans each memory location in each band, CH, frequency, and the memory location number flash on the display. CAUTION: Do not hold down AMS. This causes the stereo to automatically seek and store station into both AM bands or all three FM bands. 2. To stop the scanning when the stereo pauses at a station you want to listen to, press the station's memory location button or AMS. NOTE: If you do not press a memory location button, the stereo scans both AM bands or all three FM bands repeatedly. PLAYING A CASSETTE WARNING: To prevent hearing damage, always turn the volume to its lowest level before you begin listening to a tape. NOTE: Avoid using C-120 cassette tapes. They are very thin and can easily become tangled in the tape-handling parts. Follow these steps to play a cassette tape. 1. Take up any slack by turning the cassette's hub with your finger or a pencil. (Avoid touching the tape.) 2. Push POWER/VOLUME to turn on the stereo. 3. Insert the tape into the cassette compartment with its open edge to the right. TAPE > or TAPE < appears on the display, and the tape begins to play. 4. If you are playing a metal or CrO(2) (Type II) tape, press 5/MTL until MTL appears on the display. 5. Adjust POWER/VOLUME, FADER, BASS, TREBLE, and BAL to suit your listening preferences. 6. Press in up-arrow all the way to stop the tape and eject the cassette. CAUTION: When you insert a tape into the cassette compartment, the tape-handling parts continue to touch the tape until you press up-arrow. We recommend you press up-arrow as soon as you finish playing a tape or before you leave you vehicle, to release it from the tape-handling parts. This reduces the possibility of the tape being inadvertently tangled or damaged. NOTES: When the tape reaches the end, the cassette player automatically changes the tape's direction and plays the other side of the tape. Play continues until you press up-arrow. During play, you can switch to the other side of the cassette by pressing << and >> halfway in. Fast-Forward and Rewind To fast-forward or rewind the current side, firmly press >> or << depending on which side of the tape is playing. The button locks and the tape quickly winds. Play resumes when the end of the tape side is reached. To stop fast-forward or rewind before the end of the tape, gently press and release the opposite button. Play continues. SWITCHING BETWEEN TAPE/RADIO You can temporarily stop a tape and listen to the radio by pressing TC (Tuner/Cassette). TC appears on the display, the tape stops and the radio plays. To continue playing the tape, press TC again. NOTE: Although the stereo stops the tape when you press TC, the tape-handling parts continue to touch the tape. We recommend you press up-arrow as soon as you finish playing a tape to release it from the tape-handling parts and prevent tangling. USING THE CONTROL PANEL The stereo's control panel must be in place for the stereo to operate. When you remove it, the display turns off and the stereo cannot be used. This is a simple, but effective, security feature. NOTES: Any stored station remain in memory when the control panel is removed. If you connected and armed the stereo's alarm, the alarm will detect unauthorized entry even if the control panel is removed. REMOVING THE CONTROL PANEL 1. Press REL until you hear a click. The control panel swings out. 2. Remove the control panel. CAUTION: To keep the metal connecting pins clean, do not touch the connecting pins in the recess or on the back of the control panel. REINSTALLING THE CONTROL PANEL 1. Insert the left edge of the control panel into the left edge of the recess. Make sure the pins in the recess fill the holes in the edge of the control panel. 2. Gently push the top left edge of the control panel into the recess until you hear a click. 3. Gently push the right edge of the control panel into the recess until you hear a click. ALARM OPERATION If you install and arm the stereo's alarm, it sounds an extremely loud alarm tone if someone opens the driver-side door and does not disarm the alarm. CAUTION: Your stereo's alarm sounds at the stereo's maximum output power (25 watts per channel if you connect the stereo to one pair of speakers) through the speakers. Make sure that each speaker you connect to the stereo is rated to handle 25 watts or more of output power. See "Making the Connections." NOTES: The stereo will sound the alarm even if you remove the stereo's control panel. However, you must install the control panel to arm the alarm or change the alarm's presets. To use the stereo's alarm, you must have connected the stereo to a door pin switch. See "Connecting Power and the Alarm." The following time delays are preset at the factory and are not adjustable: Delay Type Delay Type Exit delay 60 seconds Entry delay 12 seconds Alarm length 30 seconds ARMING THE ALARM 1. Be sure the stereo's control panel is installed. 2. Park the vehicle and turn its key to OFF. 3. Press ALM until KEY is displayed. 4. Remove the stereo's control panel, then exit the vehicle within 60 seconds after you pressed ALM in Step 3. A red light flashes in the recess, then the stereo waits for 60 seconds and arms the alarm. The red light continues to flash. If someone opens the driver-side door and does not disarm the alarm, the red light stops flashing and the stereo beeps repeatedly for 12 seconds then sounds the alarm tone for 30 seconds. DISARMING THE ALARM When you re-enter the vehicle, the red light stops flashing, and the stereo beeps repeatedly for 12 seconds. If you disarm the alarm before it sounds, the stereo stops beeping. To disarm the alarm, turn the vehicle's key to on or ACC. (TE/all-04/27/95)
