In-Dash AM/FM Stereo (120-2103) Care and Maintenance Faxback Doc. # 15028 Cassette Player The Optimus In-Dash AM/FM Stereo Cassette Player with Auto-Reverse and Alarm is an example of superior design and craftsmanship. The following suggestions will help you care for the stereo so you can enjoy it for years. Keep the stereo dry. If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately. Liquids can contain minerals that can corrode electronic circuits. Handle the stereo gently and carefully. Dropping it can damage the circuit boards and case and can cause it to work improperly. Keep the stereo away from dust and dirt, which can cause premature wear of parts. Wipe the stereo with a damp cloth occasionally to keep it looking new. Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or strong detergents to clean the stereo. Modifying or tampering with the stereo's internal parts can cause a malfunction and might invalidate you stereo's warranty and void your FCC authorization to operate it. If your stereo is not operating as it should, take it to your local Radio Shack store for assistance. CLEANING THE TAPE-HANDLING PARTS Clean the tape head after every 20 hours of playing time. Insert a special head-cleaning cassette (such as Cat. No. 44-1162), and let it run for a few minutes to remove any foreign matter. RESTORING TAPE TENSION AND SOUND QUALITY After you play a cassette tape several times, the tape might become tightly wound on the reels. This can cause playback sound quality to deteriorate. To restore the sound quality, fast-forward the tape from the beginning to the end of one side, then completely rewind it. Then loosen the tape reels by gently tapping each side of the cassette's outer shell on a flat surface. NOTE: Be careful not to damage the cassette when tapping it. Do not touch the exposed tape or allow any sharp objects near the cassette. REPLACING A FUSE If the stereo does not operate, you might need to replace the red power wire's fuse with the supplied spare fuse. If the clock resets or stored stations are lost when the ignition is off, you might need to replace the yellow continuous power wire's fuse inside the filter and fuse box with the supplied spare fuse. WARNING: Before you begin, turn off the stereo and the vehicle's ignition. 1. Disconnect the red and yellow power wires. 2. Unlatch the two latches on the red power wire's fuse holder until the holder springs open. 3. Pull up the latch on the yellow continuous power wire's filter and fuse box until the box springs open. 4. If either fuse is blown, replace it. Use only standard 1-1/4 x 1/4 inch fuses with the proper rating, The red power wire's fuse must be 1.0 amp, slow-blow (such as Cat. No. 270-1021) and the yellow continuous power wire's fuse must be 8.0 amps, slow-blow (such as Cat. No.270-1030). CAUTION: Make sure you replace a fuse only with another fuse of the same rating. The supplied spare fuses have the correct rating. If you use a fuse with an incorrect rating, the stereo could be damaged. 5. Snap the fuse holders closed. 6. Reconnect the red and yellow power wires. (TE/all-04/27/95)
