OPTIMUS 3-Way Speaker System (120-1733) Installation Faxback Doc. # 17091 WIRING THE SPEAKERS All Radio Shack auto sound systems come with eight color-coded speaker wires. This chart shows Radio Shack's standard color codes. Speaker Terminal Wire Color Left Rear Green (+) / Green-Black (-) Left Front White (+) / White-Black (-) Right Rear Violet (+) / Violet-Black (-) Right Front Gray (+) / Gray-Black (-) For each speaker wire, match the negative conductor (with the black stripe) to the negative (-) speaker terminal to ensure proper phasing (+ to + and - to -). (Improper phasing causes poor bass response.) NOTE: Other auto sound systems' wires might not use the same color codes. If your auto sound system is other than a Radio Shack brand, check its owner's manual for the speaker wire color codes. Connect the stereo's speaker wires to the speakers, using the color code chart as a guide. Then turn on your system to be sure that the speakers are connected properly. CAUTION: Do not connect any speaker wires to chassis ground. Use all of the specified wires to connect the speakers to your vehicle's auto sound system. TWO-SPEAKER SYSTEM White to Left Positive White-Black to Left Negative Gray to Right Positive Gray-Black to Right Negative FOUR-SPEAKER SYSTEM If your car has front to rear fader, connect your speakers as follows. Green to Left Rear Positive Green-Black to Left Rear Negative White-Black to Left Front Negative White to Left Front Positive Violet to Right Rear Positive Violet-Black to Right Rear Negative Gray-Black to Right Front Negative Gray to Right Front Positive MOUNTING THE SPEAKERS 1. Select a flat area for the mounting surface. The surface should be sturdy enough to support the weight of the speakers. Be sure auto sound system's wires will reach the mounting location. 2. Use the supplied template to mark the locations for the mounting screws. 3. Drill three 5/32-inch holes for each speaker's mounting screws and another for each speakers wire. 4. Thread two of the supplied bolts into the holes on the bottom of the speaker cabinet and tighten them securely. 5. Route the speaker wire form your auto sound system, through the mounting surface to the speaker location, and connect it to the speaker. 6. Position the speaker cabinet on the mounting surface by inserting the bolts through the drilled holes. 7. From under the mounting surface, place one of the four supplied washers over each bolt. then thread and tighten two of the supplied wing nuts until the speaker cabinet is secure.
