High Power AM/FM Stereo Car Cassette Player (120-2104A) Care and Maintenance Faxback Doc. # 18190 REPLACING A FUSE If the stereo does not operate, you might need to replace the red power wire's fuse. If the clock resets or stored stations are lost when the ignition is off, you might need to replace the yellow continuous power wire's fuse. Follow these steps to change a fuse. WARNING: Before you begin, turn off the stereo and your vehicle's ignition. 1. Disconnect the cable from you vehicle battery's negative (-) terminal. 2. Disconnect the red and yellow power wires. 3. Push together and twist the fuse holder's parts counterclockwise until they spring apart. 4. If the fuse is blown, replace it. Use only standard 1 1/4-inch fuses with the proper rating. The red power wire's fuse must be 6.0 amps, and the yellow continuous power wire's fuse must be 0.5 amp. 5. Reassemble the fuse holder by inserting the fuse and pushing and twisting the two parts clockwise until they snap together. 6. Reconnect the red and yellow power wires. 7. Reconnect the battery cable. CLEANING THE TAPE-HANDLING PARTS Clean the tape head after every 20 hours of playing time. Insert a special head-cleaning cassette (such as Cat. No. 44-1202), and let it run for a few minutes to remove any foreign matter. RESTORING TAPE TENSION AND SOUND QUALITY After you play a cassette tape several times, the tape might become tightly wound on the reels. This can cause playback sound quality to deteriorate. To restore the sound quality, fast-forward the tape from the beginning to the end of one side, then completely rewind it. Then loosen the tape reels by gently tapping each side of the cassette's outer shell on a flat surface. NOTE: Be careful not to damage the cassette when tapping it. Do not touch the exposed tape or allow any sharp objects near the cassette. (CS 11/20/95)
