X/K/Ka Super Wideband (220-1648) Installation Faxback Doc. # 3407 Radar Detector MOUNTING GUIDELINES For the best performance, select a location for the detector where it has a direct view of the road. The detector's radar antenna is at the opposite end from the display and buttons. Follow these guidelines when you select a mounting location. * Choose a location that does not block the driver's vision. * Mount the detector in a level position. * Since signals are blocked by metal surfaces, the detector's view of the road must not be obstructed by a windshield antenna, wiper blades, ornaments, or metallic sunscreens. * Some vehicles have instaClear@ or ElectriClear defogging type windshields, which have metal coatings that block signals. General Motor's APV vans have a Solar Shield that keeps the vehicle cooler during summer months. This shield can also block signals. A detector installed in a vehicle with any of these features will probably not detect a signal. * Do not mount the detector where the driver or passenger might hit it in a sudden stop or accident. CAUTION: Whichever mounting method you choose, place the detector out of view when you leave the vehicle. This keeps the detector out of sight of thieves and prevents exposing it to extremely high temperatures, which can temporarily impair the detector's performance. HOOK-AND-LOOP MOUNTING For some dashboards, the supplied hook-and-loop tape might be the best mounting method. Follow these instructions to use the hook-and-loop tape. 1. Use a damp cloth to thoroughly clean both the bottom of the detector and the dashboard. Let both surfaces dry completely. NOTE: The tape's adhesive might not stick to a surface treated with vinyl cleaner or protectant. 2. On a curved dashboard, use one strip of tape on each side of the detector's bottom. On a flat dashboard, attach a strip of tape to each corner of the detector. Cut the two provided strips in half to attach the detector in four places. 3. Peel off the tape's paper backing and apply the tape to the bottom of the detector. 4. Remove the paper backing from the other side of the tape and press the detector onto the dashboard. VISOR MOUNTING The supplied sun visor clip lets you quickly mount the detector on the vehicle's sun visor. Warning: Do not mount the detector on a visor if this places the detector near the driver's or passenger's head. Follow these steps to use the sun visor clip. 1. Snap the sun visor clip onto the top of the detector. 2. Clip the detector over the back of the sun visor. NOTE: If necessary, you can mount the detector upside down in the visor clip to improve access to its buttons and your view of the indicators. (CJD/all-12/05/94)
