X/K/Ka Super Wideband (220-1648) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 3408 Radar Detector Cautions: The detector is designed to work in a vehicle that has a 12- volt, negative-ground electrical system. Most vehicles have this type of system. If you are not sure about the vehicle, check with the vehicle's dealer. Unplug the adapter from the vehicle's cigarette-lighter socket when you turn off the ignition. This prevents the vehicle's battery from being drained if you leave the detector on when you turn off the ignition. Insert the DC adapter's barrel plug into the power jack on the side of the detector, then plug the DC adapter into the vehicle's cigarette-lighter socket. Use the supplied cable clips to secure the power cord out of the way. NOTE: If the detector does not operate when you turn it on, remove the DC adapter from the vehicle's cigarette-lighter socket and check the socket for debris. Also check the fuse in the adapter and the vehicle's fuse clock (see "Replacing the Fuse".) REPLACING THE FUSE If the detector stops operating, check the fuse in the cigarette-lighter plug. If it has blown, follow these steps to replace it: 1. Carefully unscrew the tip of the fuse holder. 2. Remove the tip from the fuse holder, then remove the old fuse. NOTE: The tip is in two pieces. Take care not to lose either piece. NOTE: Do not remove the spring under the fuse. 3. Replace the fuse with a 2-amp, 1 1/4 x 1/4, fast-acting fuse (Cat. No. 270-1007). CAUTION: Using a fuse that does not meet these ratings or defeating the fuse protection can damage the detector, the power cable, or the vehicle's electrical system. 4. Press the top of the fuse holder down into the body, then screw it back in. CAUTION: Be sure you press the top of the fuse holder down before screwing it in, or you might damage the fuse holder.
