X/K/Ka Super Wideband (220-1648) Operation Faxback Doc. # 3409 Radar Detector POWER AND SELF TEST To turn on the detector, connect power and turn OFF/VOLUME away from you until it clicks. The detector sounds a distinctive tone for each band and lights all indicators in sequence as a self test. Then all indicators turn off except the POWER indicator. To turn off the detector, turn OFF/VOLUME toward you until it clicks. All indicators turn off. ADJUSTING THE VOLUME To exchange the detector's volume, turn OFF/VOLUME either away from or toward you. OPERATING SETTINGS The detector has two operating modes: city and highway. You can also set the detector to temporarily mute the audio alert and turn off all indicators except the POWER indicator. CITY MODE The FCC has allocated X-band signals for non-traffic radar systems such as intrusion alarms, automatic door openers, and microwave traffic signal controllers. The city mode reduces the annoyance created by non-traffic radar signals by requiring a stronger incoming signal before it sounds an alert tone. To select the city mode, press CITY/HWY until the CITY/HWY indicator turns on. HIGHWAY MODE The highway mode provides maximum sensitivity for open-road driving. To select the highway mode, press CITY/HWY until the CITY/HWY indicator turns off. MUTING THE AUDIO ALERT To temporarily silence the detector, press MUTE until the MUTE indicator turns on. You can also press MUTE while the audio alert is sounding to silence it. To restore the detector's audio alert, press MUTE until the MUTE indicator turns off. TURNING OFF THE DISPLAY To temporarily turn off all indicators except POWER, press DARK. The POWER indicator remains on to let you know the detector is receiving power. The detector's audio alert remain active. To return to the normal full indications, press DARK again. RECEIVING AND IDENTIFYING RADAR SIGNALS When you first turn on the detector, it sounds different alert tones in the following order; X, K, and Ka. When the detector senses a radar signal, it responds with both audio and visual alarms. The detector notifies you of the type of radar signal by using different audio alarms for each type. In addition, the signal strength meter shows the signal strength by increasing the number of indicators that turn on. The audio alert tone pulse rate also increases with signal strength. The detector's instant-on radar detection circuit provides a warning for instant-on radar, which can lock onto the vehicle's speed in less than 1 second. When the detector senses instant-on radar, it immediately flashes a full signal strength meter and sounds three beeps three times within 2 seconds. Then the detector sounds a continuous tone until you pass the radar source. The instant-on radar detection circuit operates in both the highway and city modes. (CJD/all-12/05/94)
