Digital Stereo Cassette (120-1993) Operation Faxback Doc. # 7984 Follow these steps to listen to the radio. 1. Turn on your vehicle's ignition. Turn VOL clockwise to turn on the stereo. If a cassette tape is in the cassette player, press the eject button. 2. Press BAND to select the desired band (FM1, FM2, or FM3 for the FM band; AM1 or AM2 for the AM band). Each time you press BAND, the radio automatically tunes to the last station you selected in that band. 3. Press LOC to reduce interference that may occur when you tune to a strong local station. LOC appears on the display. 4. Tune to the desired station in one of the following ways: Manual Tuning: Press > or < to tune up or down the selected band. Auto Seek Tuning: Press and hold > to tune to the next highest strong station or < to tune to the next lowest strong station. Note: You can also use memory tuning to select a station. See "Memory Tuning." If the stereo does not find a strong station and you have not pressed LOC, the stereo seeks through the band a second time and stops on weaker stations. 5. Press ST/MO when receiving an FM broadcast under normal conditions. The unit automatically switches to mono or stereo as you tune into different stations. Stereo appears on the display when you tune to an FM stereo signal. If the FM reception is weak, the stereo changes to mono to improve reception. 6. Adjust VOL, TRE, BASS, BAL, AND FADER to suit your listening preferences. VOL - Rotate VOL clockwise to turn on the stereo and increase the volume. Warning: To prevent possible ear injury and hearing loss, do not listen at high volume levels. Slowly increase the volume to a comfortable listening level. BAL - Pull out BAL and adjust to the desired balance between the left and right speakers. BASS and TRE - Adjust BASS to increase or decrease bass response and adjust TRE to increase or decrease treble response. FADER - Adjust FADER for the desired balance between the front and rear speakers. 7. Turn VOL counterclockwise until it clicks to turn off the stereo. MEMORY TUNING Your radio has two AM memory groups (AM1 and AM2) and three FM groups (FM1 , FM2, and FM3). You can store up to six stations in each memory group, so you can store up to 12 AM and 18 FM stations in memory. You can let the stereo search for the next six stations in a band and automatically enter these into a memory group, or you can manually enter stations into a memory group. To tune to a stored station, select the memory group and press the correct memory location button. You can also scan the stations in a memory group. Automatically Storing Stations Follow these steps to store stations into the stereo's memory. 1. Turn on the stereo. 2. Press BAND to select the desired band and memory group. For example, select AM1 to store the first group of AM stations. 3. To select only strong local stations, press LOC so LOC appears on the display. 4. Use any tuning method to tune to the first station you want to store into memory. 5. Press and hold down MS for 3 seconds. The system scans the selected band, and automatically stores the next six storing stations. The memory location number and the station's frequency appears on the display for each stored station. After the stereo stores all six stations into memory, it begins scanning all six strong stations. The channel number flashes and the stereo tunes to each station for 5 seconds. 6. Repeat steps 1-5 to store more stations in other memory groups. Manually Storing Stations Follow these steps to manually store a station into memory. 1. Rotate VOL clockwise to turn on the stereo. 2. Press BAND to select the band and memory group. For example, select AM1 to store the first group of AM stations. 3. Use any tuning method to tune to the station you want to store into memory. 4. Press and hold down the desired memory location number until the audio momentarily mutes. The memory location number and the station's frequency appears on the display for each stored station. Scanning Stored Stations Press BAND to select the desired band and memory group. Press MS to scan the stored stations in that group. The radio scans the stored stations, pausing for 5 seconds at each station. When the radio pauses at a station you want to listen to, press MS again. Note: Do not hold down MS. This sets the radio to automatically store stations into memory. CASSETTE PLAYER OPERATION PLAYING A CASSETTE TAPE Follow these steps to play a cassette tape. 1. Take up any slack by turning the cassette's hub with your finger or a pencil. Do not touch the tape. 2. Rotate VOL clockwise to turn on the stereo. 3. Insert a cassette tape into the cassette compartment with its open edge to the right. The tape plays. 4. Adjust VOL, BASS, TRE, BAL, and FADER to suit your listening preference. 5. Press both < and > at the same time to play the other side of the tape. 6. Press << or >> (whichever is pointing in the same direction as the tape direction indicator on the display) to fast forward the tape. 7. Press << or >> (whichever is pointing opposite the tape direction indicator) to rewind the tape. 8. Press the eject button to stop and eject the cassette tape. Notes: Do not use C-120 cassette tapes. They are thin and can easily become tangled in the playback mechanism. The tape automatically reverses direction and plays the other side when it reaches the end. DISABLING THE STEREO You can disable your stereo for security. Push the top groove on the front panel and remove the panel. The red square light below the eject button flashes, the display goes blank, the sound stops, and all operation locks regardless of whether the stereo is turned on or off. To re-enable the stereo, replace the front panel. REPLACING A FUSE If the stereo does not operate, you might need to replace the red power wire's fuse. You might also check your vehicle's fuses. Follow these steps to change a fuse. Warning: Before you begin, turn off the stereo and your vehicle's ignition. 1. Remove the stereo from the dash. (See "Removing the Stereo.") 2. Open the fuse holder. 3. If the fuse is blown, replace it. Use only standard 1 1/4-inch fuses with the proper rating. The red power wire's fuse must be 5.0 amps, and the yellow continuous power wire's fuse must be 1.0 amp. 4. Reassemble the fuse holder by inserting the fuse and locking the two parts until they snap together. 5. Replace the stereo in the dash. (LB/all-12/01/94)
