TANDY 2500 RSX (250-1620/1621) Video Memory Faxback Doc. # 1914 Your computer has 256KB of video memory permanently installed on the main logic board. To upgrade the video memory use a 256KB Video Memory Upgrade Kit (25-1082A). To use the 640 x 480, 256-color graphics mode; 800 x 600, 256-color graphics mode; and 1024 x 768 (interlaced and non-interlaced), 16-color graphics mode, you must increase the amount of video memory to 512KB. Use a 256KB Video Memory Upgrade Kit (25-1082A). This kit contains two 20-pin memory chips for the two video memory chip sockets on the main logic board. CAUTION: Incorrect installation of the video memory chips can damage the chips or your main logic board. Install the chips carefully. Install the video memory upgrade kit as follows: 1. Refer to "Main Logic Board Layout" to locate the two video memory chip sockets. 2. Remove one chip from the antistatic packaging. Pin 1 of the chip is indicated by a dot and a notch on one end. Each video memory socket on the main logic board has a notch at the Pin 1 end. 3. Orient the memory chip so that the dot on the notched end of the chip aligns with the notched end of the socket. 4. Carefully press the memory chip into the socket. Be sure that the pins of the chip do not bend. 5. Repeat Steps 2 through 4 for the second memory chip. When you restart the computer, it has 512KB of video memory. The computer does not check the video memory when it performs the startup diagnostics; the memory amount displayed at startup includes only system memory. Note: To display some Super VGA modes, you must run applications designed to support them. Refer to the "Acumos Video" section to determine which VGA modes require a multiple-frequency monitor, video drivers, and/or additional video memory. (/tmc-08/30/95)
