(250-1650/51) VIS1- DISCUS AND VIS2- MULTICOM SOFTWARE INSTALLATION PROCEDURES FOR THE SENSATION AND MULTIMEDIA COMPUTERS. NOTE: The Discus and Multicom Software diskettes are available from Tandy Software Exchange. (Orderable through any local Radio Shack.) The following are the titles of VIS software that the VIS1-Discus program will allow you to run on the Sensation and other multimedia computers: The Tale of Peter Rabbit (250-6125) Heather Hits Her First Homerun (250-6133) The Tale of Benjamin Bunny (250-6126) Moving Gives Me a Stomach Ache (250-6134) The Paper Bag Princes (250-6127) The Night Before Christmas (250-6135) Mud Puddle (250-6128) Aesop's Fables (250-6136) Thomas: Snowsuit VIS (250-6129) The Tell-Tale Heart VIS (250-6137) Scary Poems for Rotten Kids (250-6130) Cask of Amontillado VIS (250-6138) Cinderella (250-6131) The Necklace VIS (250-6139) Long Hard Day on the Ranch (250-6132) VIS1-DISCUS SOFTWARE INSTALLATION ON THE SENSATION Installation of VIS1-Discus software. (If Program Manager is not your default Desktop, you must change the line in your system.ini from SHELL=DESKTOP.EXE to read SHELL=PROGMAN.EXE) 1. Exit Windows out to the C:\> MS-DOS prompt. 2. Place the VIS1-Discus diskette into the floppy drive A: 3. Type A: 4. Type vinstall You will see a series of screens, that will give you information about the software. At the bottom right of the screen, you will see three large buttons. They are labeled: EXIT PREVIOUS NEXT In most cases, you will press NEXT. The first screen tells you about what MS-DOS, CD-ROM, and Video type you have. Choose NEXT. The second screen tells you if you have enough memory. Choose NEXT. The next screen deals with hard drive and sound configurations. You will note that the default drive is C: and the default sound board is SoundBlaster. Choose NEXT. The next screen prompts you to install the software to a C:\DISCUS directory. It will prompt you to create one. Do so by choosing the CREATE button in the lower left-hand corner. The next screen talks about installing a Windows Discus Group and Icon the next time you start Windows. At this point, chose the INSTALL button in the lower left-hand corner. The next screen is the audio test screen. It will remind you what sound card you chose on the third screen. At this time, click on the TEST button in the lower left-hand corner. Sound should come through the Sensation!'s speakers. Click on NEXT, and then at the final screen click on EXIT. 5. To finish the installation, take the VIS1-Discus diskette out of the drive and type: C: . 6. At the C:\> prompt, type: WIN 7. After the PRgram Manager loads, DIscus will create a group and an icon for Discus Books for VIS. You have now succesfully installed the VIS Discus software. RUNNING VIS DISCUS CD-ROMS ON THE SENSATION! 1. To make sure you do not run into any problems using the VIS-Discus software, it is suggested that you run it from under Windows, not from under WinMate. 2. Place the CD-ROM you wish to run in the CD-ROM drive and click on the Discus icon. 3. Discus will come up with a screen asking you to choose the Discus Book you wish to play. Highlight the name of the bok and choose OPEN. You will then be running the Discus software. NOTE: If you receive an error when running VIS1-Discus, such as CDR-101, reboot the computer sytem. The error will normally appear after installing the software and running Discus for the first time. That has been the only time we have encountered this error. VIS-DISCUS SOFTWARE INSTALLATION ON NON SENSATION COMPUTERS WITH A SOUND BLASTER CARD You perform the same exact installation instructions as listed above, with the exception of having to change the default Windows shell, as you should already have Program Manager as the default shell. To make sure you do not run into any problems using the VIS-Discus software, make sure that you are at a C:\> prompt. On multimedia computers that are not the Sensation, you must run the Discus software from MS-DOS, rather than from Windows. To do this type: CD DISCUS . Place the CD-ROM you wish to run in the CD-ROM drive. Type: VDISCUS Discus will come up to a screen asking you to choose the Discus Book you wish to play. Highlight the name of the book and choose OPEN. You will then berunning the software. MULTICOM SOFTWARE FOR THE SENSATION! The following are the titles of VIS software that the VIS2-Multicom program will allow you to run on the Sensation: Astrology VIS (250-6141) America Parks VIS (250-6202) Americans in Space (250-6203) INSTALLING THE MULTICOM SOFTWARE ON THE SENSATION! (You must change the shell=desktop.exe line in system.ini to read shell = progman.exe just like in the Discus instructions). You must run the Multicom installation and programs from Windows and not from MS-DOS. 1. Insert the Multicom CD-ROM that you wish to run into the CD-ROM drive. 2. Insert the Multicom Driver diskette in the floppy drive. 3. From the Program Manager screen, pull down the FILE menu and click on RUN. 4. Type: A:\SETUP 5. The software will tell you to insert the CD-ROM to be installed. Since you already have at this point, press . 6. You will receive two more prompts regarding the disk drive where the software resides (D:) and where it is to reside (C:). Accept the defaults by pressing at both of these screens. The Multicom drivers will then install. 7. When the installation is through, you will be returned to the Program Manager screen. RUNNING MULTICOM CD-ROM PROGRAMS ON THE SENSATION 1. Make sure the correct CD-ROM is in the machine 2. Click on the icon. You will then be running the Multicom software. NOTE: You will have to go through this process for each Multicom CD-ROM you wish to install. The drivers will build a separate group for each CD-ROM, and within each group, you will have a single icon for the CD-ROM program you installed.
