The motherboard provides options for installing external cache RAM in
the system board up to 512KB.

Cache Memory Configurations:

Each secondary cache memory module requires the following specifications:

    160 pin configuration
    64 pin SIMM         
    256 (32Kx64)
    15 nsec
    Asynchronous SRAM
    32Kx8
    12 nsec 
    Tag SRAM

The IBM stock number for this kit (256K) is 38H0238.

NOTE: Static electricity can destroy electronic devices.  Whenever you
      handle any option outside of its protective packaging, first
      discharge any static electricity from your body by touching a
      protective grounding device or unpainted metal on the rear panel of
      the system unit.

To install SRAMs:

1.  Turn off the computer, and disconnect all cables.

2.  Discharge any accumulated static electricity from your body by
    touching a grounded metal object. Then, open the computer.

3.  Remove any expansion adapters installed in the three-slot expansion
    area by removing the expansion slot screws, disconnecting any data
    cables, and gently moving each adapter back and forth while pulling
    it out of the riser card connector.

4.  Locate the two cache memory module sockets.

5.  The middle notch at the bottom divides the cache module into two
    unequal halves.  Position the notch over the center divider in
    the socket , matching the wide half of the module to the wide
    half of the opening in the socket.

Important  │The module can be correctly installed only when │
           │the wide set of contacts is inserted into the   │
           │wide socket opening.                            │

6.  Push the module straight down into the socket.
8. Reconnect all cables.
