433 SX/T (259-7701) Expansion Adapter Faxback Doc. # 2292 The three-slot expansion area supports three half-length expansion adapters. The four-slot expansion area supports four full-length adapters. However, if a microprocessor is installed in the performance upgrade socket, some adapter types might not fit in the bottom slot. Note: If you install a video adapter, you must disable the SVGA circuitry on the main logic board by changing the setting for Jumper Block J28. Before you begin, carefully read the following steps and the documentation provided with the expansion adapter. ┌──────────────────────────────────────────────┐ │Installing an Adapter in the Three-Slot Area: │ └──────────────────────────────────────────────┘ 1. Turn off the computer, and disconnect all cables. 2. Discharge any accumulated static electricity from your body by touching a grounded metal object. Then, open the computer. 3 From the back of the computer, loosen the screw that secures the slot-cover clamp. Remove the clamp by pulling the screw down and through the keyhole opening. This specialized bracket is held by one screw which is accessible from the back of the cpu case. 4. Remove the expansion slot cover. Save the slot cover in case you later remove the expansion adapter. 5. Press the expansion adapter into the slot connector on the riser card. 6. Replace the clamp, and tighten the screw to secure the expansion adapter. 7. Connect expansion adapter cables (if any) as specified by the instructions provided with the adapter. 8. Be sure the internal cables are securely connected and do not cause mechanical interference. Then, close the computer. 9. Reconnect the cables. 10. Update the CPU worksheet at the end of the owners manual. 11. Run the setup* utility to update the system configuration. * The setup utility is started by pressing F2 during the cpu startup Faxback Document # 2290 will provide specific details on running the setup utility. ┌─────────────────────────────────────────────┐ │Installing an Adapter in the Four-Slot Area: │ └─────────────────────────────────────────────┘ 1. Turn off the computer, and disconnect all cables. 2. Discharge any accumulated static electricity from your body by touching a grounded metal object. Then, open the computer. 3. Remove the bottom of the computer by removing the two screws located on the left side, near the rear corner of the chassis. (the CPU must be in the horizontal position) The front left side of the chassis is hinged, simply open the bottom of the computer and remove the chassis plate. This will expose the tops of the expansion slot screws and covers. Then remove the expansion slot screw and cover. Save the slot cover in case you later remove the expansion adapter. 4. Press the expansion adapter into the slot connector on the riser card. When installing a full-length adapter, be sure the adapter is correctly positioned in the guide slot. 5. Secure the expansion adapter bracket, using the screw you removed from the slot cover. 6. Connect expansion adapter cables (if any) as specified by the instructions provided with the adapter. Route the cables over the chassis crossbar if necessary. 7. Be sure the internal cables are securely connected and do not cause mechanical interference. Then, close the computer. 8. Reconnect the cables. 9. Update the CPU worksheet at the end of the owners manual. 10. Run the setup* utility to update the system configuration. * The setup utility is started by pressing F2 during the cpu startup Faxback Document # 2290 will provide specific details on running the setup utility.
