IBM Aptiva Mxx series M50/M51/M30/M31/M41/M53/M71/M63/M55 (250-0440/1/2/3/4/5/50/53) Adding a 2nd Hard Drive Faxback Doc. # 33017 Q. I added a second hard drive to my Aptiva Mxx, and now my CD-ROM programs no longer work. What's up? A. When the Aptiva Mxx software was loaded on the hard drive by IBM, the CD-ROM was configured as drive D:. All of the CD-ROM programs are set up to look for the CD-ROM on drive D:. If you add a second hard drive to your system, or partition the existing hard drive, the CD-ROM drive will be assigned a new drive letter. This will cause the CD-ROM programs to no longer work. With the exception of Jump Start Kindergarten, UnderSea Adventure, and Magic Theatre, you can simply run the Install or Setup program on the program CD to re-install the program. For example, to re-install Compton's Encyclopedia, run the SETUP program on the Compton's CD. That will configure the programs to look for the CD-ROM in its current location. New program groups and icons will be created for the programs. Delete the old icons, and drag the new ones into the current Windows groups or folders, if you wish to retain the old desktop configuration. For UnderSea Adventure, use Notepad to edit the following files: C:\KA\SEA\SEA.BAT C:\KA\SEA\KA.CNF You will see several lines in each of the files that refer to D:\. Replace the 'D' with the current CD-ROM drive letter, and save the files. For JumpStart Kindergarten, use Notepad to edit the following files: C:\KA\KG\KA.CNF C:\KA\KG\KG.BAT Again, you will see several lines in each of the files that refer to D:\. Replace the 'D' with the current CD-ROM drive letter, and save the files. For Magic Theatre, no editing is required. The first time you start the program after adding the new drive, you will receive an error message explaining that the Library Files cannot be found. Replace the 'D' in the Library Files box with your current CD-ROM drive letter, and click OK. (BKL-06/24/96)
