Karaoke-Mate (320-1153) Connections Faxback Doc. # 15658 CONNECTING POWER Installing Batteries You can power the Karaoke-Mate with four AA batteries. We recommend alkaline batteries, such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-552. Follow these steps to install the batteries. 1. Set POWER to OFF. 2. Press down on the battery compartment cover and slide it in the direction of the arrow to remove it. 3. Install the batteries as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and -) marked inside the compartment. CAUTION: Always use fresh batteries of the required size and type. 4. Replace the cover. If you are operating the Karaoke-Mate using battery power and the POWER indicator dims, replace the batteries. CAUTIONS: To avoid damage from leaking batteries, remove the batteries if you do not plan to use the Karaoke-Mate for a week or more. Also, do not leave batteries in the Karaoke-Mate if you plan to use AC power for an extended period of time. Always dispose of old batteries promptly and properly. Using AC Power To power your Karaoke-Mate from an AC outlet, you need an AC adapter, such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 273-1454. CAUTION: You must use an AC adapter that supplies 6 volts DC power and 30 milliamps. Its center tip must be negative and it must have a plug that properly fits the DC 6V jack. The recommended adapter meets these specifications. Using an adapter that does not meet these specifications could damage your Karaoke-Mate or the AC adapter. NOTE: Connecting an AC adapter disconnects the internal batteries. 1. Insert the AC adapter's barrel plug into the karoke-mate's DC 6V jack. 2. Plug the AC adapter into a standard AC outlet. CONNECTING AN AUDIO SOURCE FOR INPUT You can connect an audio input source (such as a CD player or stereo system) to the Karaoke-Mate so you can sing along with the audio input source's sound. Connect the source's stereo audio output jacks to the Karaoke-Mate's STEREO LINE IN R and L jacks. NOTE: If your audio source does not have AUX OUT jacks, but has only a headphone output jack (such as is found on a portable tape or CD player), use a shielded Y-adapter cord with phono jacks on each end (such as Cat. No. 42-2475). Connect the single-plug end to the audio source's headphone jack, and connect the other end's two phone plugs to the Karaoke-Mate's STEREO LINE IN R and L jacks. CONNECTING AN AUDIO COMPONENT TO THE OUTPUT JACKS Connect an audio output component (such as a stereo amplifier/receiver) to the Karaoke-Mate's LINE OUT R and L jacks to hear the audio source's sound with your voice. NOTE: When you are not using the Karaoke-Mate, set POWER to OFF. The sound from the audio input source passes through the Karaoke-Mate to the output component unaffected. CONNECTING MICROPHONES You need an external microphone with a 1/4-inch plug (such as Cat. No. 33-3009) to sing along. To help prevent feedback, we recommend a unidir- ectional microphone. You can connect two microphones for duets or lead and background vocals. 1. Set the volume controls for MIC 1 and MIC 2 to MIN. 2. Insert the microphone's plug into MIC 1. Insert the second microphone's plug into MIC 2, if desired. (br/all-06/13/95)
