Duofone 165 (430-0601) Care and Maintenance Faxback Doc. # 14278 For trouble-free operation, there are two main things to remember: 1. Never leave weak or dead batteries in your DUoFONE-165. Even "leak proof" batteries might leak damaging chemicals. To assure adequate back up power, the batteries should be replaced once a year. We recommend our 23-582, Extra-Life batteries. 2. Handle and use your phone with care. It's a sensitive electro- mechanical instrument. Avoid rough treatment, temperature extreme and areas with high levels of dust and humidity. If You Have Problems If your DUoFONE-165 is not operating properly, going through this check list might keep you from spending unnecessary time and money. 1. Is the unit properly connected? 2. Is the PAUSE/TONE switch set correctly? 3. Is the memory up/down bar set to the correct position? 4. If the DUoFONE-165's volume level drops off it begins to make strong sounds, check to see if other phones have been picked up on the same line. This unit might not operate when other phones are active on the same line (in areas with low telephone voltage). Hanging up the other phones should correct the problem. 5. If numbers will not hold in the memory, replace the batteries. Use our Extra-Life 23-582 batteries 6. If phone numbers will not auto-dial properly, replace the batteries. 7. Make sure the AC adapter is properly installed. 8. Check the position of the TEL LINE/AC ADAPTER switch. If you Still Have Problems Disconnect the unit immediately! If other phones on the same line function properly, the problem is in the unit or its installation. If you're unable to locate the problem, bring the unit to your local Radio Shack store for assistance. Lightning Your Radio Shack telephone has a built-in protection circuit that meets or exceeds FCC requirements to reduce risk of damage from surges in the telephone line current. However, an incident such as a lightning strike near, or directly to, these lines might cause an excessive surge of voltage that can damage the telephone. Lightning damage is uncommon, but it can occur in phones and other electronic devices. If you are concerned about it or live in an area with frequent and/or severe electrical storms, we suggest that you unplug your electronic products during the storms. (TK/all-03/20/95)
