After you mount your phone, complete the procedures in this section before
you operate it.

CONNECTING THE ANTENNA

Screw the supplied antenna onto the handset.

INSTALLING/CHARGING THE BATTERY

Follow these steps to install the supplied battery.

1.  Slide off the battery compartment cover.

2.  Place the battery in the compartment.

3.  Replace the cover.

You must fully charge the battery before you use the phone.  To charge the
battery, simply place the handset on the cradle.  The CHARGE indicator
lights.  A full first charge takes about 20 hours.  Subsequent charges
take about 6 to 8 hours.

NOTE:  If CHARGE does not light when you place the handset on the cradle:

       Be sure the battery is properly installed.

       Be sure the AC adapter is correctly connected.

       Check the charging contacts on the handset and base.  If the
       contacts are dirty or tarnished, clean them with a pencil eraser.

Recharge the battery between calls or when the BATT LOW indicator blinks.

When the handset battery will no longer recharge, replace the battery.
You can order a replacement battery from your local Radio Shack store.

IMPORTANT:  This phone contains a rechargeable nickel-cadmium battery pack.
            At the end of the battery pack's useful life, it must be
            recycled or disposed of properly.  Contact your local, county,
            or state hazardous waste management authorities for information
            on recycling or disposal programs in your area.  Some options
            that might be available are: municipal curbside collection,
            drop-off boxes at retailers, recycling collection centers, and
            mailback programs.

SETTING THE PULSE-TONE SWITCH

Set PULSE-TONE for the type of service you have (pulse or tone).  If you
are not sure which type you have, do this test.

1.  Set PULSE-TONE to TONE.

2.  Press TALK on the handset and listen for a dial tone.

3.  Press any number other than 0.

If the dial tone stops, you have touch tone service.  If the dial tone
continues, you have pulse service.  Set PULSE-TONE to PULSE.

SETTING THE RINGER VOLUME

Set VOLUME OFF/LOW/HIGH to control the ringer's volume.

NOTE:  The phone does not ring when you set the switch to OFF, but the IN
       USE indicator on the base and the TALK button on the handset light
       when you receive a call.
