Caller ID System 400 (430-0958) Operation Faxback Doc. # 15765 STORING INCOMING CALLS Caller ID is a service provided by your telephone company. When Caller ID is activated, the telephone company sends the caller's telephone number and the call's date and time through the telephone line between the first and third rings. In some areas, the caller's name is also sent. When you receive an incoming call, the Caller ID System displays the call information and also stores it in memory. The Caller ID System can receive and store up to 99 number-only calls or 51 name and number calls. After the first ring, NEW CALLS and the call information appear on the display. If you choose not to answer the call, NEW CALLS flashes and then appears on the display until you retrieve your messages. The system also displays special indicators to let you know if the call is a long-distance call, if the call was forwarded to your phone, or if the call did not include Caller ID information. It even lets you know if you have a message waiting (if you subscribe to the telephone company's message waiting service). You can use the system to quickly review your call information, and you can delete call information after you no longer need it. REVIEWING INCOMING CALL RECORDS NOTE: If you do not press a button within 30 seconds while reviewing incoming call records, the system automatically returns to the current time/total number of calls display. After you have received at least one call, the system automatically enters the Caller ID mode and displays the most recent call record. If necessary, press MODE repeatedly until CALLER ID MODE appears on the display. To review your calls, press REVIEW [left arrow] or [right arrow]. The display shows the time and the total number of calls saved since your last review. Press REVIEW [right arrow] to see information about the most recent call, or repeatedly press REVIEW [left arrow] to see information about earlier calls. The system shows the call information. It might also show the following additional information: RPT (Number of Repeats) - Shows whether the incoming call was a repeat call and, if so, how many times the caller called (up to 8). CALL-Fd - Appears instead of the phone number if the call was forwarded to you by a telephone set to forward all calls using the telephone company's call forwarding service. Press READ to see the phone number of the original caller. PRIVATE CALL - Appears if the caller chose to block sending their Caller ID information (see "Receiving Calls and Caller ID Blocking"). No caller information appears. ? - Appears within the caller information if one or more letters were not properly received. It is normal for this to happen occasionally. If this happens often, contact your local phone service provider and ask them to correct the problem. DATA ERROR - Appears if the Caller ID information was garbled. It is normal for this to occasionally happen. If this happens often, contact your local phone service provider and ask them to correct the problem. MESSAGE - Appears if a message is waiting (if you subscribe to message waiting). NOTES: If there are no dashes (-) in the telephone number, the call is from a number within your direct dialing area. Depending on your local phone service, dashes might appear in long-distance numbers. If the phone number is more than 12 digits, press READ to see the rest of the number. DELETING INCOMING CALL RECORDS When the system's memory is full, the system automatically deletes the record for the oldest incoming call when a new call arrives. Then repeatedly press REVIEW [left arrow] or [right arrow] to search for the call you want to delete. When the call you want to delete appears, press DELETE twice. The call is deleted, the incoming call records renumber accordingly, and the display shows the next received call. To delete all of the stored incoming calls, repeatedly press REVIEW [left arrow] or [right arrow] until the system displays the current time and total number of calls. Then press and hold DELETE for about 6 seconds. The system deletes all of the incoming call records from memory, and NO CALL appears on the display. REJECTING CALLS If you receive a call and determine that you do not want to speak to that caller again, you can store the caller's number and name (if applicable) in the rejected call list. When the Caller ID System receives an incoming rejected call, it either plays a message telling the caller that you will not accept the call, or it lets the phone ring while it displays the caller's number and name. You can either answer the call or ignore it (see "Receiving a Rejected Call").
