TAD-265 Cordless Telephone Answering System (430-0730) Care and Maintenance Faxback Doc. # 15893 REPLACING THE BATTERY The supplied battery pack should last for several years. When the battery pack cannot fully recharge, order a new one from your local Radio Shack store. Follow these steps to replace the battery pack into the handset. Then charge the battery as described in "Charging the Battery." 1. Remove the cover by sliding it in the direction of the arrow. 2. Remove the connector of the old battery pack and take it out. 3. Attach the connector of the new battery pack to the connector inside the battery compartment. Then place the battery pack inside the compartment. 4. Replace the battery compartment cover. NOTES: Even if you have replaced the old battery pack with a fully charged battery pack, you should place the handset on the cradle to set the security access-protection code. If the CHARGE indicator does not stay lit when you place the handset on the cradle, be sure the battery pack is properly connected. CLEANING THE TAPE-HANDLING PARTS Clean the tape-handling parts every 30 days. Press STOP and remove the cassette. Then gently clean with a swab dipped in tape head cleaning solution. Tape head cleaning supplies are available at your local Radio Shack store. CAUTION: To avoid damage to the tape head, never use a chemical not approved for tape head cleaning and never touch the head with your fingers or any metal object. DEMAGNETIZING THE TAPE HEAD Demagnetize the tape head every 30 days. This helps prevent distorted recordings and reduction of high-frequency response. Demagnetizers are available at your local Radio Shack store. CARING FOR THE TAD The DUoFONE TAD-265 Cordless Telephone answering System is an example of superior design and craftsmanship. The following suggestions will help you care for your phone so you can enjoy it for years. Keep the TAD dry. If it does get wet, wipe it dry immediately. Liquids might contain minerals that can corrode the electronic circuits. Use and store the TAD only in normal temperature environments. Temperature extremes can shorten the life of electronic devices and distort or melt plastic parts. Handle the TAD gently and carefully. Dropping it can damage circuit boards and cases and can cause the phone to work improperly. Keep the TAD away from dust and dirt, which can cause premature wear of parts. Wipe the TAD with a damp cloth occasionally to keep it looking new. Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or strong detergents. Modifying or tampering with the TAD's internal components can cause a malfunction and might invalidate its warranty and void your FCC authorization to operate it. If the TAD is not performing as it should, take it to your local Radio Shack store. Our personnel can assist you and arrange for service if needed. If the trouble is harming the telephone lines, the telephone company might ask you to disconnect the TAD until you resolve the problem. THE FCC WANTS YOU TO KNOW In The unlikely event that your TAD causes problems on the phone line, the phone company can disconnect your service. The phone company attempts to notify you in advance. If advance notice is not practical, the phone company notifies you of your right to file a complaint with the FCC. Also, the phone company can make changes to its lines, equipment, operations, or procedures that could affect the operation of your telephone equipment. The phone company notifies you of these changes in advance, so you can take steps to prevent interruption of your phone service. LIGHTNING The TAD has built-in protection circuits to reduce the risk of damage from surges in phone and power line current. These protection circuits meet or exceed FCC requirements. However, lightning striking the phone line or power lines can damage your TAD. Lightning damage is not common. Nevertheless, if you live in an area that has frequent electrical storms, we suggest that you unplug your TAD during storms to reduce the possibility of damage.
