Duophone 660 (430-0955) Operation Faxback Doc. # 15906 USING THE SPEAKERPHONE Follow these steps to use the speakerphone. 1. Press SPKRPHONE. You hear a dial tone. 2. Dial the desired number or press a memory button. 3. When the person on the other end of the line answers, begin your conversation. Follow these steps to switch from the handset to the speakerphone during a conversation. 1. While using the handset, press SPKRPHONE and return the handset to the cradle. 2. Lift the handset to switch from the speakerphone to the handset. NOTES: When you use the speakerphone, only one conversation can be heard at a time. When the first person finishes speaking, your phone automatically switches so the person on the other end of the line can talk. If your phone is near loud noises while you are using the speaker- phone, the phone might not switch to let the person on the other end of the line talk. Use the PRIVACY button to turn off the microphone so you can listen to the other person. Using the PRIVACY Button Follow these steps to listen to the person on the other end of the line and mute your side of the conversation. 1. Press PRIVACY when you complete your side of the conversation. PRIVACY flashes on the display. The microphone turns off. 2. Press PRIVACY again when you want the person on the other end of the line to hear you. ANSWERING A CALL Follow these steps to answer a call. 1. When the phone rings, lift the handset or press SPKRPHONE and begin your conversation. If you use the speakerphone, adjust VOLUME on the side of the phone to a comfortable listening level. 2. When you finish the conversation, hang up the handset or press SPKRPHONE to end the call. MAKING A CALL You can use manual dialing, redialing, memory dialing, or Caller ID dialing (see "Dialing a Caller ID Number") to make a call. Manual Dialing Follow these steps to manually dial the number. 1. Lift the handset or press SPKRPHONE. 2. Dial the desired number. The number appears on the display. 3. Begin your conversation. 4. Hang up the handset or, if you used the speakerphone, press SPKRPHONE to end the call. Redialing This phone's redial memory quickly calls the last number you dialed. The redial memory holds up to 40 digits, so it can store long-distance numbers as well as local numbers. To redial the phone number you last dialed, do one of the following. Pick up the handset and press DIAL/REDIAL. Press DIAL/REDIAL twice. The phone automatically enters the speakerphone mode and dials the number. NOTE: If you dial more than 40 digits, your phone stores only those digits you dialed after the 40th digit. Memory Dialing To dial a number stored in the phone's memory, pick up the handset or press SPKRPHONE. To dial numbers stored in Upper Memory, press the memory button for the desired number. The phone number appears on the display and the phone dials the number. To dial numbers stored in lower priority memory, press LOWER. LOW appears on the display. Press the memory button for the desired number. The phone number shows on the display and the phone dials the number. NOTE: If the stored number has more than 12 digits, all the digits scroll across the display. Then the last 12 digits remain on the display. USING TONE SERVICES ON A PULSE LINE If you have pulse service, you can still use special services that require tone signals, such as bank-by-phone, by following these steps: 1. Call the service. 2. When the service answers, press LDT (Long Distance Tones). 3. Follow the normal procedures for the special services you are using. The phone returns to the pulse mode when you hang up. Chain-Dialing Chain-Dialing is making a call using more than one memory location. Use chain-dialing for special services, such as alternate long-distance and bank-by-phone. Follow these steps to make a call using the numbers you previously stored in memory. 1. Lift the handset or press SPKRPHONE. 2. Press the first memory button to dial the number. NOTE: If your service is pulse, press LDT to switch from pulse mode to tone mode when the service answers. 3. Depending on the special services, either enter your personal identification number or press the memory button that holds the other number. NOTE: For security reasons, we recommend that you do not store your personal identification number in a memory location. USING THE TIMER Follow these steps to time a phone call using the built-in timer. 1. Press TIMER. 0-00 appears on the display and the timer starts counting from 0 minutes and 00 seconds. 2. Press TIMER a second time to stop the timer and display the elapsed time. The timer counts to 99 minutes and 59 seconds, and starts counting from 0-00 again. 3. Press CLOCK to return to the display's normal time. USING THE FLASH BUTTON Many special phone services, such as call waiting, require a 0.7 second switchhook signal. FLASH provides the electronic equivalent of a switch- hook operation. Follow these steps to answer a second incoming call during a call if you have call waiting. 1. Press FLASH to answer the call. An F appears and remains on the display for the duration of the call. 2. Press FLASH again to return to the first call. NOTES: If you do not subscribe to a special service that uses the switchhook signal, do not press FLASH during a call. Your call might be disconnected. You can store the flash command into a memory location. The redial memory. however, cannot store the flash entry or any digits after the flash entry. USING THE CALLER ID SYSTEM Caller ID is a service provided by your telephone company. When you subscribe to this service, your system displays the caller's numbers (or name and number) and lets you recall that number. It can store up to 99 incoming phone numbers, or up to 47 incoming names (that do not exceed 15 characters and number that do not exceed 32 digits) and numbers. RECEIVING CALLS After the first incoming ring, the caller's information and the date and time appear. SPECIAL CALL INDICATORS Special call indicators, shown below, might appear with the caller information. The display shows: NEW for a first-time call NOTE: A new call is the first time this number is received since your last review of the memory. (See "Reviewing Caller Information.") RPT for a repeat call NOTES: A repeat call indicates that the call has been received more than once since your last review of the memory. OUT OF AREA for a call made from an area where the phone company does not offer the Caller ID service. PRIVATE for an unlisted caller number CALL FD if you forwarded your calls using the phone company's call forwarding feature NOTE: The call is forwarding to the number you programmed. ? for characters/numbers garbled during transmission ??ÄÄÄÄÄ? if all characters/numbers are garbled during transmission To answer a call after you view the display, pick up any phone connected to the telephone line. If you choose not to answer or no one is available to answer the call, the display continues to flash the phone number, call time, and date. This is stored as the most recent call until you receive another call. To view Name/Number quickly press review twice. REVIEWING CALLER INFORMATION The system's incoming call memory can store information for up to 99 single-message (incoming number only) or 47 multiple-message (name and number) calls. Follow these steps to review received calls. 1. Press REVIEW < or >. The display shows the number of new calls received. If no calls have been received 00 NEW CALLS appears on the display. 2. Repeatedly press REVIEW < or > to review the numbers and the date and time of each call. The first line of the display shows the phone number, the second line shows the date and time. 3. To view the call's sequence number, hold down REVIEW < or > while the number, date, and time are on the display. DIALING A CALLER ID NUMBER Follow these steps to dial a Caller ID number. 1. Press REVIEW < or > until the locate the number you want to dial. 2. Press 1+DIAL, L.7-DIGIT, or DIAL/REDIAL. The phone dials the Caller ID number according to the button you press. The button functions are listed below. Button Function 1+DIAL Compares the Caller ID number's area code to your stored area code. Dials 1+ the last seven digits if the area codes are the same or 1+ the area code and number if they are different. L.7-DIGIT Dials the last seven digits on the display. DIAL/REDIAL Dials all digits in the Caller ID number on the display. DELETING CALLER INFORMATION When the Caller ID memory fills, the system deletes the oldest record when you receive a new call. You can also manually delete a call from memory. Follow these steps to manually delete a call. 1. Press either REVIEW button to search for the call you want to delete. 2. Press DELETE twice within 1 second to delete the call. The phone sounds a beep and the display becomes blank with two dotted lines. Follow these steps to clear all calls stored in Caller ID. 1. Press and hold REVIEW for about 6 seconds until CANCEL appears. 2. Press DELETE once to delete the entire incoming call memory. FOLLOW THESE STEPS TO CLEAR ALL CALLS STORED IN CALLER ID: A. WHEN THE DISPLAY IS IN THE "CLOCK MODE" PRESS AND HOLD THE "LEFT REVIEW" KEY FOR ABOUT 6 SECONDS. "CANCEL ?" WILL APPEAR IN THE DISPLAY. B. PRESS THE "DELETE" KEY. ALL CALLER ID MEMORIES WILL BE CLEARED AND THE DISPLAY WILL SHOW TWO ROWS OF DASHES. C. THE DISPLAY WILL CHANGE FROM DASHES TO CLOCK MODE AFTER ABOUT 10 SECONDS OR THE USER MAY PRESS "CLOCK" OR "SPEAKERPHONE" TO RETURN TO CLOCK MODE. LOCK CODE ENTRY PROCEDURE 1. When the display shows the time, press and hold the TIMER button down for five seconds until it displays 'LOCKED 7 ---'. 2. Using the telephone keypad, enter your three-digit lock code. 3. Press [STORE] to store the code. 4. If the phone displays 'LOCKED' again, enter your three-digit code again to unlock the phone. (/all-02/14/96)
