ET-508 Cordless Telephone (430-1015) Installation Faxback Doc. # 16550 SELECTING A LOCATION You can place the phone on a flat surface such as a desk, shelf, or table. Select a location where the phone is: Near an outlet. Near a phone line jack. Out of the way of normal activities in the area. Away from electrical machinery, electrical appliances, and metal walls or filing cabinets. Away from wireless intercoms, alarms, and room monitors. The base's location affects the phone's range. If you have a choice of several locations, try each to see which one provides the best performance. Your telephone connects directly to a modular telephone line jack. If your telephone wiring does not have a modular jack, you can: Update the wiring yourself. Your local Radio Shack stores sells the jacks and adapters to convert older wiring methods to modular wiring. Have the telephone company update the wiring for you. The telephone company might ask you for the USOC number of the jacks to be installed. This number is RJ11C (or RJ11W for a wall plate installation). NOTE: The telephone company charges to install the necessary jack. CONNECTING THE BASE Once you select a location for the base, following these steps to connect it to the phone line and power. 1.
