Caller ID System 1100 (430-0966) Operation Faxback Doc. # 17385 MAKING/RECEIVING A CALL To make a call using the handset, simply pick it up. When you hear the dial tone, dial the number. The current time disappears, and the number appears on the display as you dial it. When you complete the call, hang up the handset. Then number disappears from the display, and the current time reappears. When you receive a call, the system rings (if you set RINGER to HIGH or LOW). To answer the call, pick up the handset. Using the Speakerphone Follow these steps to make a call using the speakerphone. 1. Turn VOLUME to its minimum position. 2. Press SPKRPHONE. SPKR appears on the display, the SPKRPHONE indicator lights, and you hear a dial tone. 3. Adjust VOLUME to a comfortable listening level. 4. Dial the number. The current time disappears, and the number appears on the display as you dial it. 5. When you complete the call, press SPKRPHONE again. SPKR and the number disappear from the display, and the SPKRPHONE indicator turns off. Then the current time reappears. To receive a call using the speakerphone, press SPKRPHONE. NOTES: When you use the speakerphone, only one end of the line can be heard at a time. If the system is close to loud noises while you are using the speakerphone, the system might not switch to let you hear the person on the other end of the line. If this happens, press PRIVACY to turn off the microphone so you can hear the caller (see "Using Privacy," below). PRIVACY flashes on the display. To switch from the handset to the speakerphone, press SPKRPHONE, then hang up the handset. To switch from the speakerphone to the handset, simply pick up the handset. USING PRIVACY During a call, press PRIVACY to talk to someone else in the room without the person on the other end of the line hearing your conversation. PRIVACY flashes on the display. Press PRIVACY again to resume your phone conversation. USING FLASH Pressing FLASH sends the electronic equivalent of a switchhook signal. Use FLASH with special phone company services such as call waiting. If you have call waiting, you can press FLASH to take another incoming call on the same line without disconnecting the current call. F appears on the display to the right of the displayed number. Press FLASH again to alternate between the two calls. NOTES: If you do not have any special phone services, pressing FLASH might disconnect the current call. Pressing FLASH does not hang up the system. You can store a FLASH entry when you store a number in memory. The phone's redial memory does not store a FLASH entry or any digits you press after FLASH. USING DIAL/REDIAL NOTES: The redial memory holds up to 40 digits, so you can redial long- distance as well as local phone numbers. If you redial a phone number that includes a flash entry, the system only redials the numbers before FLASH. For example, if you dial 1 2 3 4 FLASH 5 6 7, pressing DIAL/REDIAL only redials 1 2 3 4. To quickly redial the last number dialed, simply press DIAL/REDIAL when you hear a dial tone. The number scrolls across the display, and the system dials it. To redial the last number dialed using the speakerphone, press DIAL/REDIAL twice. You hear the system redial the number through the speakerphone. USING AUTO REDIAL The system's auto redial feature automatically redials a busy or unanswered number up to 10 times. You can monitor the dialing progress on the speakerphone. 1. After dialing a busy or unanswered number, hang up the handset or press SPKRPHONE. 2. Press DIAL/REDIAL. The current time disappears, and the number you dialed appears on the display. 3. Press DIAL/REDIAL twice. Auto appears on the display and PRIVACY flashes. Then the number you dialed scrolls across the display, and the system redials the number. You hear the system redial the number through the speakerphone. If someone answers the number you dialed, simply press SPKRPHONE or pick up the handset to begin the conversation. If no one answers the number you dialed after 30 seconds, the system disconnects the call, then redials the number again (up to 10 times). To cancel auto redial, either press SPKRPHONE twice, or pick up the handset, then hang it up. Caution: Be sure to stay close enough to the system to hear the called person answer during auto redial. If you are not there to begin the conversation when the person answers, the system hangs up and dials the number again (as many as 10 times). This can be annoying to the person you are calling. Also, if the call is long-distance, the phone company charges you for each call. NOTE: The system disconnects the microphone during auto redial, so noises at your location do not prevent you from hearing the system redial a number. USING TONE SERVICES ON A PULSE LINE Some special services (such as electronic banking, calling cards, telephone answering equipment, etc.) require tone signals. If you have pulse service, you can still use these special tone services by following these steps. 1. Be sure TONE/PULSE is set to PULSE. 2. Dial the number of the special service. 3. When the service answers, press *. Any additional numbers you dial are sent as tone signals. 4. After you hang up, the system automatically returns to the pulse mode (since TONE/PULSE is set to PULSE). USING THE TIMER The system's timer displays elapsed time in minutes and seconds, up to 99 minutes and 59 seconds. This helps you keep track of how long your calls last. To start the timer, press PAUSE/TIMER. TIMER and 00:00 appear on the display, then the timer starts counting. NOTE: After the timer reaches 99 minutes and 59 seconds, it starts counting again from 0 minutes and 0 seconds unless you stop it. To stop the timer and display the elapsed time, press PAUSE/TIMER while the timer is running. To reset the timer and start it again, press PAUSE/TIMER again. To stop the timer and return to the clock display, hang up the phone or press SPKRPHONE, then press CLOCK. USING DIAL LOCK The system's dial lock lets you limit the number of digits that can be dialed. When you set a 3-digit dial lock code (see "Setting the Dial Lock Code," below), the system will not dial numbers longer than either 7 or 8 digits unless you enter the dial lock code. This helps prevent children or unauthorized users from dialing long-distance, 976-, 900-, 800-, and 700- prefix numbers and storing numbers into the system's memories. NOTE: Setting the system's dial lock does not prevent users from dialing a number longer than 7 or 8 digits stored in upper memory, lower memory, or memory bank II memory, or from dialing the number from an extension phone on the same line. Setting the Dial Lock Code NOTE: If you set a dial lock code, you can view call records and phone numbers stored in memory. However, you cannot view call records stored in the system's VIP call list and rejected call list unless you unlock dial lock first. 1. While the display shows the time, press and hold down PAUSE/TIMER until LOCK 7 DIGITS COdE ----- Appears on the display (about 5 seconds). 2. To prevent the system from dialing numbers longer than 7 digits, enter the desired 3-digit code within 30 seconds. Or, to prevent the system from dialing numbers longer than 8 digits numbers longer than 8 digits, press READ within 30 seconds. LOCK 8 DIGITS COdE ---- appears on the display. Then enter the desired 3-digit code. 3. Press STORE to store the code. The system beeps, then the time appears on the display. NOTE: If you do not enter a 3-digit code or press READ or STORE within 30 seconds, the time appears on the display. Repeat Steps 1-3. Unlocking Dial Lock After you set a dial lock code, when a user tries to dial a number with more than 7 or 8 digits, the system displays and dials only the first 7 or 8 digits of the number. Before you can use the system to dial longer numbers, you must unlock dial lock. NOTE: After you unlock dial lock, you must set the dial lock code again to lock it. 1. While the display shows the time, press and hold down PAUSE/TIMER for about 5 seconds until LOCKED - - - appears on the display. 2. Enter the 3-digit code within 30 seconds. NOTE: If you do not enter the correct 3-digit code, the system beeps, then the time appears on the display. If you entered an incorrect 3-digit code, the system sounds an error beep, and LOCKED - - - reappears on the display. Re-enter the correct 3-digit code. Canceling Dial Lock Caution: This procedure might erase all information you stored in the system's memory. If you forgot the dial lock code and want to cancel dial lock, you must disconnect the phone line, then remove the batteries from the battery compartment. After about 5 minutes, the system automatically cancels dial lock. Reconnect the system using the steps in Installation, Faxback Doc. # 18488. (PH 10/24/95)
