Also, a warning tone is heard when the phone is kept on hold for over three minutes. 3) Power Indicator..................Lights when the power cord is plugged into an AC outlet. 4) IN USE Indicator.................Lights when the Handset is in use: either picked up from the Base Unit or when TALK PUSH HANG-UP is pressed. 5) HOLD Indicator...................Lights when the selector switch is in the HOLD position. 6) INTERCOM Indicator...............Lights when the selector switch is placed to INTERCOM. 7) Selector Switch INTERCOM.......................Selects an intercom conversation TELEPHONE HOLD.................Places the telephone line on hold for up to six minutes. TELEPHONE TALK.................Allows normal telephone conversation. 8) CALL Button......................Press to call the Handset for intercom conversation. 9) Charging Contacts................Provide power to charge the Handset, when it is placed on the Base Unit. 10) AC Power Cord....................Supplies AC power to the ET-410 when plugged into AC outlet. 11) Telephone Connection Cable.......Provides connection to the phone line, when plugged into a standard modular telephone jack. 12) Telephone Jack...................Provides for connection of an optional regular telephone for normal or intercom use. 13) CODE ENTER Button................Readies the unit for entry of the personal security code. 14) INTERCOM CALL TONE HI/LO Switch..Selects the volume (HI or LO) for intercom "ring". 15) TONE-PULSE Switch................Sets the dialing mode--tone or pulse --according to the phone system. If the phone is a standard rotary dial phone, set to PULSE. HANDSET UNIT (Operation Summary) 1) Telescopic Antenna.........Extends fully to maintain maximum communication range. 2) Receiver (Behind Grille)...Operates the same as the receiver in a regular telephone. 3) TALK Indicator.............Lights when the TALK PUSH HANG-UP button or the CALL key is pressed (to indicate the Handset is "on the line"). 4) BATT LOW Indicator.........Lights when the nickel-cadmium battery pack needs to be recharged. 5) 0 through 9 Keys...........Used to dial the phone numbers or enter them into the memory. In the tone mode, all the keys (including # and *) have the same function as other tone dialing phones. 6) * and # Keys...............Used only in tone mode for special service functions (such as call forwarding, computer access, etc.) from the phone company. 7) PAUSE Key..................Adds a pause when entering a number into the memory or when dialing a number that will be redialed using the REDIAL key. This is sometimes necessary for accessing the outside line from an office. 8) MEMORY Key.................Used to designate one of the 32 memory locations of your ET-410. Enter the location number after you press MEMORY. 9) FLASH Key..................Creates a half second on hook state so you can use special phone services, such as call waiting. To use this call waiting feature, press FLASH; press again to return to the first call. 10) MEMORY STORE Key...........Prepares the ET-410 to store a number in memory. 11) RINGER HI/LO/OFF Switch....Selects the ringer loudness. 12) TALK PUSH HANG-UP Button...Used for answering and making a call and hanging up when away from the Base Unit (similar to "off hook" and "on hook" states of the regular telephone). 13) Mic (Behind Grille)........Operates the same as the microphone in a regular telephone. 14) Charging Contacts..........Receive power from the Base Unit charging contacts when the Handset is on the Base Unit. 15) Charging Indicator.........Lights when the Handset is charging on the Base Unit. 16) VOLUME HI/LO Switch........Selects the listening volume level of the Handset. 17) POWER ON/OFF Switch........Turns the Handset on and off. Set to ON when you want to make or receive a call. 18) PRIVACY Key................Temporarily disconnects the microphone in the Handset when pressed and held; the phone line remains active, but no sound is transmitted. Release the key to continue a conversation. 19) REDIAL Key.................Redials the last manually dialed number automatically. 20) LDT Key....................Switches the unit from the pulse mode to tone mode (and vice versa) instantly. This key is active only when the TONE-PULSE switch on the Base is set to PULSE. 21) LDT Indicator..............Indicates the phone has been temporarily set to the tone mode (by pressing the LDT key). Used only when the Base is set to the pulse mode. 22) CALL Button................Calls the Base Unit for Intercom conversations. 23) Ringer (Back of the Unit)..Uses new advanced circuitry for electronic "ring". The Handset also rings when it receives the call signal from the Base Unit. The two rings are different so that the user can tell an outside call from the intercom call. CHECKLIST For dependable operation, the steps below must be performed in sequence. this checklist summarizes these steps in their proper order. A detailed description of each step appears after the checklist. 1) Install the Base Unit - Connect the power cord to an AC outlet. - Connect the modular plug to a modular jack. 2) Charge the Handset - Set the POWER switch to OFF. - Place the Handset on the Base Unit; the red charging indicator will light. - Allow the Handset to charge completely (24- 48 hours). 3) Enter the Security Code - Turn Handset POWER on. - Press the CODE ENTER button on the Base Unit; a short tone will sound from the Handset. - Enter a four-digit code on the Handset keypad (using 0 - 9); another short tone will sound to indicate the number has been stored. 4) See the OPERATION (Faxback Doc. # 17583).
