Press and hold down READ for about 5 seconds until CONTRAST ? appears on the display 2. Within 30 seconds, repeatedly press Review< to decrease or REVIEW> to increase the display's contrast NOTE: If CONTRAST ? disappears before you press REVIEW< or REVIEW>, repeat Steps 1-2 Setting The Ringer Volume To set the ringer's volume, set RINGER on the right side of the system to the desired position. Set it to HIGH in a noisy room, such as the kitchen, or to LOW in a quiet room, such as a bedroom. If you do not want the ringer to sound, set RINGER to OFF. You can still answer calls if you hear an extension phone ringing, and you can still make calls. Setting The Dialing Mode Set TONE/PULSE for the type of service you have, tone or pulse (rotary). If you are not sure which type you have, do this test. 1. Set TONE/PULSE to TONE. 2. Pick up the handset. 3. When you hear the dial tone, press any number other than ). If the dial tone stops, you have touch-tone service. Leave TONE/PULSE set to TONE. If the dial tone continues, you have pulse service. Set TONE/PULSE to PULSE. Storing Your Area Code If you subscribe to Caller ID service, the system stores a caller's phone number, including the area code, and name (if available). then, when you dial the caller's number by pressing L CALLBK, the system dials the number without the area code. NOTE: When you dial a number in a call record by pressing REDIAL, the system only dials the area code if it differs from the area code you stored. Before you receive or make a call, follow these steps to store your area code. NOTE: If you do not press any button within 30 seconds while storing your area code, the display returns to the time 1. Press STORE. Location appears on the display. 2. Press L CALLBK. AREA CODE 000 appears on the display. 3. Use the number keys to enter your area code. 4. Press STORE.
