Local Area Personal Pager (170-7001/2/3/4/5) Operation Faxback Doc. # 18262 The Radio Shack Local Area Personal Pager lets you keep in touch with family and friends everywhere you go and is easy to operate. Be sure you thoroughly read these instructions to ensure that you fully understand your Local Area Personal Pager. A LOOK AT YOUR PAGER READ -- lets you read messages, activate pager functions, and set the time. MENU -- scrolls through the pager menus and sets the time. ON/OFF -- turns the pager on/off, selects the audible or silent mode, and activates the backlight. TURNING ON THE PAGER Your pager has two alert settings -- audible and silent. Audible -- For the pager to beep for 8 seconds when you receive a page, set ON/OFF to speaker (speaker symbol). Silent -- For the pager to vibrate when you receive a page, set ON/OFF to speaker off (speaker symbol with a slash through it). TURNING OFF THE PAGER Set ON/OFF to O to turn off the pager and the display's backlight. Caution: All pages you received previously are automatically erased when you turn off the pager. SETTING THE TIME You must set the time for the pager to timestamp your messages. 1. Repeatedly press MENU until SET TIME appears on the display. 2. Press READ. The hour digits flash. Within 30 seconds, repeatedly press READ to set the hour. 3. Press MENU. The first minute digit flashes. Within 30 seconds, repeatedly press READ to set the first minute digit. 4. Press MENU. The second minute digit flashes. Within 30 seconds, repeatedly press READ to set the minute. 5. Press MENU. The time appears on the display. PAGER ETIQUETTE Put your pager in the silent mode when you are in meetings, church, or the theater to avoid disturbing others with the audible tone. The silent vibration feature is also handy if you are at a concert or in any noisy environment where it might be difficult to hear the audible tone. RECEIVING AND READING MESSAGES When the pager receives a page, it alerts for 8 seconds. Press any button to stop the alert. The number of unread messages appears on the display. Press READ to display your message. If > appears on the display, the message continues on the next screen. The pager automatically displays the next screen after 12 seconds, or you can press READ to advance sooner. After your message, the timestamp screen appears on the display. It shows the time the message was received and the message slot number (the order it was received). Press READ to scroll through other messages. After you read all the messages, the time appears on the display. NOTES: If you do not read a message, the pager emits a reminder alert every 2 minutes and the number of unread messages appears on the display (for example, 1 PAGE). Messages are automatically erased when you turn off the pager. DISPLAY MESSAGES You might see one of the following messages on the display. OVERFLOW appears when the number of unread messages received is greater than the available memory. When this occurs, any new pages you receive "bump" the first page out of memory. When the same message is received more than once, DUPLICATE appears in the upper right corner of the display to indicate that the pager received a duplicate message. When a page is received without numeric data, TONE ONLY appears on the display. LOCKING MESSAGES You can lock messages into your scanner's memory so they are not bumped out when you receive more messages than the available memory. While the message you want to lock into memory appears on the display, press MENU. A lock icon appears on the display and the message is locked into memory until you erase it. ERASING MESSAGES To erase unwanted messages, press MENU until ERASE ALL appears on the display. Then press READ. All read messages are erased from memory and all unread messages are moved to the first message slots. NOTES: You must read a message before you can erase it. (CS 10/11/95)
