PGN-400 Nationwide Pager (170-9001) Operation Faxback Doc. # 18268 USING ON/RESET Press ON/RESET to turn on the pager. The pager alerts for 5 seconds, the red light flashes, and the standby display appears. Then the screen clears and CIRCLED DOT appears. TURNING OFF THE PAGER Repeatedly press ON/RESET until PUSH FOR OFF appears on the display above FUNCTION. Then press FUNCTION to turn off the pager. PAGER SET-UP This section contains instructions for selecting the alert mode, setting the alert tone, setting the silent alert, and setting the time and date. NOTE: You must enter each selection within 10 seconds or the pager returns to the standby display. SETTING THE ALERT MODE Your pager has two alert modes - audible and silent. SPEAKER SYMBOL - appears in the function menu when you select the audible mode. SLASH SPEAKER SYMBOL - appears in the function menu when you select the silent mode. Follow these steps to set the desired alert mode. 1. Repeatedly press FUNCTION until the function menu appears on the display. 2. Press < or > until the current alert mode flashes. 3. To change to the other alert mode and return to the standby display, press FUNCTION. Your selection is stored in memory and the standby display appears. If you select the audible mode, the pager beeps once and SPEAKER SYMBOL appears in the bottom right corner of the display. Audible Mode In the audible mode, the pager sounds an alert tone when your pager receives a message. These are the alert tone options you can choose to have sound when your pager receives a message: - beeps for 12 seconds at increasing volume levels. - beeps for 12 seconds at the loudest volume level. - beeps for 2 seconds at the loudest volume level. - beeps for 12 seconds at the softest volume level. - beeps for 2 seconds at the softest volume level. - chirps at the loudest volume level until you read the message. (See Faxback Doc. # 18155) Follow these steps to set the alert tone. 1. Press FUNCTION until the function menu appears on the display. 2. Press < or > until ALERT SYMBOL flashes. 3. Press FUNCTION. ALERT SYMBOL flashes and the audible and silent mode indicators appear on the display. 4. Press UP ARROW and DOWN ARROW until one of the alert tones following the audible mode indicator flashes. NOTE: You can also select the silent mode at this point. Go to Step 4 under "Silent Mode." (See Below) 5. Press < or > until the desired alert tone flashes. 6. Press FUNCTION to store your selection and return to the standby display. Silent Mode In the silent mode, the pager vibrates when your pager receives a message. These are the silent mode options you can choose to have function when your pager receives a message: MUSICAL NOTE - the pager chirps, then vibrates. SLASH MUSICAL NOTE - the pager vibrates for 12 seconds. SLASH SPEAKER SYMBOL - the pager does not vibrate or chirp. (See Faxback Doc. # 18155) This is how to select a silent mode setting. 1. Press FUNCTION until the function menu appears on the display. 2. Press < or > until ALERT SYMBOL flashes. 3. Press FUNCTION. The alert indicator flashes and the audible and silent mode indicators appear on the display. 4. Press UP ARROW and DOWN ARROW until one of the silent mode alerts flashes. 5. Press < or > until the desired silent mode alert flashes. 6. Press FUNCTION to store your selection and return to the standby display. SETTING THE TIME AND DATE Follow these steps to set the current time and date. NOTE: Press FUNCTION at any time to store the current settings and return to the standby display. 1. Press FUNCTION until the function menu appears on the display. 2. Press < or > until CLOCK SYMBOL flashes. 3. Press FUNCTION. The time and date appear and the hour digits flash. 4. Press ^ and v until the current hour flashes. 5. Press >. The minute digits flash. 6. Press ^ and v until the current minute setting flashes. 7. Press v. AM, PM, or 24 hr flashes. 8. Press ^ or v until the desired hour format flashes. 9. Press > . The month flashes. 10. Press ^ or v until the current month flashes. Press >. The date flashes. 11. Press ^ or v until the current date flashes. 12. Press >. The year flashes. 13. Press ^ or v until the current year flashes on the display. 14. Press FUNCTION to store the current date and time and return to the standby display. USING THE ALARM Your Nationwide Pager's alarm sounds at the time you set. NOTES: You must turn on the alarm for it to sound at the set time. Press FUNCTION at any time to store the current settings and return to the standby display. 1. Press FUNCTION until the function menu appears on the display. 2. Press < or > until ALARM SYMBOL flashes. 3. Press FUNCTION. The alarm setting appears on the display and the hour flashes. 4. Press ^ or v until the desired hour flashes. 5. Press >. The minutes flash. 6. Press ^ or v until the desired minute flashes. 7. Press >. The ALARM SYMBOL flashes. 8. Press ^ or v to turn the alarm on or off. 9. Press FUNCTION to store the alarm time and setting. If you turned on the alarm, ALARM SYMBOL appears on the standby display. Press any button to silence the alarm and have it sound again 24 hours later. NOTE: To simply turn the alarm on/off, from the function menu, press < or > until ALARM SYMBOL flashes. Then press v until the alarm symbol flashes. Press ^ or v to turn the alarm on or off. RECEIVING AND READING MESSAGES When the pager receives a page, an ENVELOPE appears on the display and it alerts, depending on your audible/silent mode setting. Press any button to stop the alert. Each time you receive a message, SCROLL SYMBOL appears in the top left corner of the display. Press < or > to select the message you want to read. If the memory is full and you receive a new message, the first message you received is bumped out of memory unless you have locked it or stored it as a personal message. Press READ to display the message. The message number and the message appear on the display for 4 seconds. The time/date stamp appears at the end of the message. NOTE: Function and I.D. codes might appear before the date/time stamp. See your service provider for information on funuction and I.D. codes. If your message uses more than one screen, the pager automatically shows the next screen after 4 seconds. To manually move to the next screen, press READ twice. To scroll backward or forward through the message one line at a time, press ^ or v. If you do not read a message, CIRCLED DOT SYMBOL flashes and the pager alerts every 2 minutes until you read the message. LOCKING MESSAGES You can lock 10 messages into memory so they are not bumped out when the memory is full. 1. Press READ. The time and date appear on the display. 2. Press < or > to select the message you want to lock into memory. 3. Press FUNCTION to display the function menu. 4. Press < or > to select LOCK SYMBOL. 5. Press FUNCTION to lock or unlock the message and return to the standby display. 6. When a message is locked. LOCK SYMBOL appears in place of ^ and appears at the beginning of the message when you read it. Follow Steps 1-5 to unlock the messages. NOTE: You must unlock a message before you can delete it. DELETING MESSAGES You can delete individual messages stored in your pager. 1. Press READ. The time and date appear on the display. 2. Press < or > to select the message you want to delete. 3. Press FUNCTION to display the function menu. 4. Press < or > to select DELETE SYMBOL. 5. Press FUNCTION. DELETE? appears on the display. 6. Press FUNCTION to delete the message or READ to not delete the message and return to the standby display. PERSONAL MESSAGE FILE You can store up to 10 messages into your pager's personal message file. Once you store a message in this area, the only way to move it is to delete it. Storing Personal Messages Follow these steps to store messages in the personal message file. 1. Press READ. The time and date appear. 2. Press < or > to select the message you want to store. 3. Press FUNCTION to display the function menu. 4. Press < or > to select PERSONAL MESSAGE FILE SYMBOL. 5. Press FUNCTION again to store the message in the personal message file. SCROLL SYMBOL appears on the right side of the display. Reading Personal Messages Follow these steps to read the messages stored in the personal message file. 1. Press READ. The time and date appear on the display. 2. Press v to select SCROLL SYMBOL. 3. Press READ and use the arrow keys to scroll through the messages until you find the one you want to delete. 4. Press FUNCTION, then press < or > to select DELETE SYMBOL. 5. Press FUNCTION. DELETE? appears on the display. 6. Press FUNCTION to delete the message or press READ to cancel the delete feature and return to the standby display. (PH 11/29/95)
