TAD-1001 (430-0741) Operation Faxback Doc. # 18448 SETTING THE TAD TO ANSWER CALLS To set the TAD to answer calls, press ANSWER. The TAD says, "Answer calls. Record messages" and the ANSWER indicator turns on. NOTES: You must record an outgoing announcement before you can set the TAD to answer calls. When you set the TAD to answer calls and some messages are already recorded, the ANSWER indicator might flash while it "compacts" memory to allow more message storage. The TAD will not answer calls until this compacting is finished. The delay can last up to 1 minute. To avoid this delay, review and erase all messages before setting the TAD to answer calls. If the TAD's memory is more than 75 percent full, the TAD says "Memory Below" and announces the percentage of memory remaining. If the TAD answers when memory is full, it beeps three times then waits 10 seconds for the caller to enter the remote operation security code. The TAD cannot record additional messages until you erase some old ones (see "Erasing Messages," below). NOTE: After all the messages play, the TAD is no longer set to answer calls. You must press ANSWER again. SETTING THE TAD NOT TO ANSWER CALLS To have the TAD not answer calls, press STOP/NO until the TAD says "Answer off" and announces the time, date, and the number of calls and messages. ANSWERING CALLS After the TAD answers a call, the outgoing announcement plays. At the end of the announcement, the caller must wait until the beep to leave a message. After 30 seconds, the TAD beeps, stops recording, and resets to answer the next call. NOTES: If the caller does not begin speaking within 7 seconds after the first beep or pauses for 7 seconds during recording, the TAD stops recording, beeps once, and resets for the next incoming call. If the TAD reaches 100 percent full while a caller is recording a message, the TAD stops recording, says "end of call," and hangs up. SCREENING CALLS To screen your calls, let the TAD answer calls for you and wait to hear the caller's message. If you decide to answer the call, pick up any phone connected to the same line as the TAD. The TAD stops recording and resets to answer the next call. NOTE: If you pick up the phone just as the TAD answers, the TAD might not stop. If this happens, hang up the phone and then pick it up again. PLAYING MESSAGES If there are new messages you have not heard, the ANN PLAY/ANN REC light flashes until you play all the new messages. To play back messages, press PLAY. The TAD announces the number of messages (if less than 60). Before playing each message, the TAD announces the time, day, and date each message was recorded. Adjust VOLUME as necessary. After all messages play, the TAD beeps three times, says "End of messages. Answer off," and the TAD is no longer set to answer calls. To set the TAD to answer calls again, press ANSWER (see "Setting the TAD to Answer Calls," above). NOTE: After the messages play, the TAD saves all the messages until you erase them (see "Erasing Messages," below). REPEATING MESSAGES If, while playing a message, you want to hear it again, press REPEAT once. The current message plays back from the beginning. To play a previous message, press REPEAT again until you reach the desired message. If you press REPEAT at the beginning of the first message, the TAD announces "First message" and continues playback from the beginning of the message. SKIPPING MESSAGES To skip to the next message during playback, press NEXT/YES once. The next recorded message plays. If you press NEXT/YES during the last message, or if all messages have been played, the TAD beeps three times and says "End of messages." Double Speed Playback While a message plays, you can, at any time, press PLAY to hear the message played back at twice the recording speed. This lets you quickly scan a message or move to any place within a message. To resume normal playback, press PLAY again. ERASING MESSAGES When memory is more than 99 percent full, you must erase some old messages before new ones can be recorded. Erasing a Single Message 1. Press PLAY to play back messages. 2. Press ERASE MSG when the TAD begins to play back the message you want to erase. The TAD stops playback and says "Enter yes to confirm." 3. Press NEXT/YES to confirm and erase the message, or any other key to cancel. The message resumes playback, but is then removed from the total number of messages. Erasing All Messages When the TAD is not set to answer calls, follow these steps to erase all messages. 1. Press ERASE MSG. If there are new (unplayed) messages, the TAD says "Error, new messages" and cancels the erase procedure. If all of the messages have been played, the TAD says "Enter yes to confirm." 2. Press NEXT/YES to confirm and erase all messages or any other key to cancel. NOTE: If you erase all messages and the TAD still tells you memory is low, press ANSWER to clear the memory and reset the TAD to 99 percent memory available. (PH 10/26/95)
