Duophone 660 (430-0955) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 18592 SETTING THE RINGER VOLUME Set RINGER to HIGH in a noisy room, such as the kitchen. Set it to LOW in a quiet room, such as a bedroom. If you do not want the ringer to sound, set RINGER to OFF. You can still answer the phone if you hear an extension phone ringing, and you can still make calls. SETTING THE DIALING MODE Set TONE/PULSE for the type of service you have (tone or pulse). If you are not sure which type of service you have, follow these steps: 1. Set TONE/PULSE to TONE. TONE appears in the top right corner of the display. 2. Lift the handset and listen for a dial tone. 3. Press any number except 0. If the dial tone stops, you have touchtone service. If the dial tone continues, you have pulse service. 4. If you have pulse service, set TONE/PULSE to PULSE. If you have tone service, leave TONE/PULSE set to TONE. SETTING THE CLOCK The phone displays the time until the you press a number button. Then the display shows the number you are dialing. Follow these steps to set your phone's digital clock. 1. Press CLOCK. The time flashes. 2. Repeatedly press HOUR to advance the clock to the correct hour. P appears for pm hours and A appears for am hours. 3. Repeatedly press MIN to advance the clock to the correct minute, 4. Press CLOCK. The time stops flashing. STORING NUMBERS IN MEMORY The phone's memory can hold a total of 22 phone numbers; Upper Memory and Lower Memory each hold 11 numbers. Use the following procedures to store a phone number in memory. 1. Press STORE. LOCATION appears on the display. 2. Press the desired memory button. NUMBER appears with a cursor flashing on the bottom line of the display. NOTES: For an upper Memory number, press any of the 11 memory buttons. Use Upper Memory for priority numbers. For a lower Memory Number, press LOWER. LOW appears on the display. They press any of the 11 memory buttons. 3. Enter the phone number and/or pause you want to store. The number can have up to 32 digits including pauses and pulse-to-tone mode changes. See "Storing a Pause in Memory" and "Chain Dialing." NOTE: If you make a mistake while entering the number, press DELETE twice to clear the display. Then enter the correct phone number. 4. Press STORE. A long beep sounds to confirm the entry, NOTE: If you answer a call before completing Step 4, you must re-enter that number in memory after your call. 5. Record the name associated with the stored phone number on the memory directory card. See "Using the Memory Directory Card." NOTE: Use a pencil in case you later want to change an entry. DELETING A NUMBER FROM MEMORY Any time you want to delete a phone number from memory, either store another number in its place, or display the number and then press DELETE twice. STORING A PAUSE IN MEMORY Use PAUSE if you have to dial an access code, such as 9, to use an outside line on a phone system. Insert a PAUSE with the phone number as instructed in "Storing Numbers in Memory." NOTE: Each pause entry is 2 seconds long and counts as one digit in memory. For a longer pause, press PAUSE multiple times. STORING NUMBERS FOR SPECIAL SERVICES To use special services such as alternate long-distance or bank-by-phone, you must dial the phone number of the service and wait for the computer to answer before you continue dialing. Since you cannot know in advance how long it will take the special service to answer, do not use a preprogrammed pause after a service number. Instead, store the special service's phone number in one memory location, and the rest of the information in another memory location. See "Chain Dialing" for more information. VERIFYING NUMBERS STORED IN MEMORY To verify a stored number, leave the handset on the hook and follow one of the options below. To check an Upper Memory number, press the correct memory button. The phone number appears on the display. To check a Lower Memory number, press LOWER. The press the correct memory button. The phone number appears on the display. If you want to dial number after you check it, press DIAL/REDIAL. The phone automatically activates the speakerphone and dials the number. NOTE: Only the first 12 digits of the stored number appears on the display. If the stored number has more than 12 digits, repeatedly press READ to scroll through the remaining numbers. STORING THE AREA CODE IN THE CALLER ID SYSTEM You can store your local area code in the Caller ID system so when you recall a number, the system automatically compares the recalled number's area code with your area code. when you redial a Caller ID number, the ID number, the phone only dials the area code if it differs from your stored area code. See "Dialing a Caller ID Number." Follow these steps to store your area code. 1. Press STORE. LOCATION appears. 2. Press 1+DIAL, the display shows: 3. Enter the area code. For example, enter 817. The display shows: 4. Press STORE again. The phone sounds a long beep to confirm the entry. (/all-02/014/96)
