TAD-1002 (430-0742) Operation Faxback Doc. # 18617 SETTING THE TAD TO ANSWER CALLS You can set your TAD to either the answer-record or announcement-only mode. Answer-Record Mode - Press ANSWER once. The TAD beeps and the ANS indicator lights. The TAD is now set to answer calls and record caller's messages. Announcement-Only Mode - Press ANSWER twice. The TAD beeps and the A.O. indicator lights. The TAD is now set to answer calls and make an announcement (without recording caller's messages). Individual messages can be up to 30 seconds long, but the TAD's total memory capacity is approximately 28 minutes (including 2 x 30 second OGMs). When memory reaches its capacity during an incoming call, the TAD beeps six times. To stop the TAD from answering calls, press ANSWER three times. SCREENING CALLS Your TAD lets you listen as callers leave messages. If you want to speak to a caller, pick up any phone on the same line as the TAD and begin speaking. The TAD detects when you pick up the phone, and it automatically resets to answer the next call. If you do not want to take the call, let the TAD finish recording the caller's message and do not pick up the handset. PLAYING MESSAGES After the TAD records new incoming messages, the ANS indicator flashes to show there are messages for you to listen to. To play back messages, press PLAY. The TAD beeps and displays the total number of messages. The time and number of the call appear while each message plays, then the TAD beeps after each message. When all messages have played, the current time appears on the display. The TAD automatically saves the messages and resets to answer the next call. NOTE: To avoid playing back messages you have already heard, press and hold down PLAY until the TAD beeps. The TAD then plays only the new messages. If there are no new messages, the TAD sounds a 3-tone beep. While the TAD is playing messages, you can press REPEAT to review a message, or press FWD to skip to the next message. To play a previous message, press and hold down REPEAT until that message's number appears. The TAD then plays the message. To pause while playing messages, press STOP. To resume playing messages, press PLAY. ERASING MESSAGES To delete a specific message, press DELETE once while the message is playing. The TAD immediately erases the message and skips forward to play the next message. To erase all messages, play all the messages and wait for TAD to beep twice. Then press and hold down DELETE until the TAD beeps once. When you release DELETE, the current time appears on the display. NOTE: The TAD will not erase messages that have not been played. RECORDING A MEMO A memo is a message you can record right at the TAD, without having to call in on the phone. The maximum memo length is 30 seconds. Follow these steps to record a memo. 1. Press and hold down MEMO until the TAD beeps. Then speak into the microphone in a normal voice. The display shows the number of elapsed seconds as you record. 2. Press STOP when you finish the memo. The TAD beeps once, and the message number indicator increases by one. The memo is recorded along with the incoming messages. To hear the memo, simply play back your messages (see "Playing Messages", above). RECORDING A CONVERSATION You can record both sides of a phone conversation at any time during the call. WARNING: It is illegal in some states to record a conversation without the consent of all parties to the conversation, including the phone company. Check the laws in your area before you use the two-way recording feature. To record a call in progress, press and hold down ANSWER for 2 seconds. Recording begins and the display shows the elapsed time. The TAD records until you press STOP or there is 30 seconds of silence. The call is recorded along with the incoming messages. To hear the call, simply play back your messages (see "Playing Messages", above). NOTE: If the TAD's memory is full (FUL appears on the display), you must erase some messages before you can record a conversation (see "Erasing Messages", above). SETTING TIME 1. Press and hold down TIME until the TAD beeps. Then release TIME> 2. While the AM/PM indicator flashes, press FWD or REPEAT to select AM or PM. 3. Press TIME to set the hour. While the hour digit flashes, press FWD or REPEAT to select the hour. 4. Press TIME to set the first minute digit. While the first minute digit flashes , press FWD or REPEAT to select the correct digit. 5. Press TIME to set the second minute digit. Set using the procedure in the last step. 6. At the preset alarm time, the alarm sounds for about 10 minutes until you press any button to silence it. 1. Turn on the alarm by pressing DELETE once when the TAD is not playing messages. The TAD beeps, the alarm indicator lights, and 12:00 (or the current alarm time) flashes on the display. 2. Set the alarm time by following Steps 1-6 in "Setting the Time.", see Faxback Doc. # 19196. When the alarm time is set, the TAD beeps, then the current time appears. 3. When the alarm sounds, turn it off by pressing DELETE once. The ALARM indicator disappears. NOTE: If the phone rings while the alarm is sounding, the alarm stops so the TAD can answer the call and record a message. If the alarm is set to sound after the TAD answers a call, the alarm does not sound until the caller hangs up. IMPORTANT: If the TAD automatically hangs up while recording (if the TAD records more than 7 seconds of silence), the alarm might not sound. (EB/ir-03/11/96)
