TAD-222 Telephone Answering System

We do not expect you to have any problems with your TAD, but if you do,
the information in this chart might help.  If you still have problems,
take the TAD to your local Radio Shack store for assistance.

         Problem                  Cause/Solution

The TAD does not answer calls.    Bad phone line connection.  Check and
                                  reconnect.

                                  Bad AC power connection.  Check and
                                  reconnect.

                                  The TAD is not set to answer calls.
                                  Press ANSWER so the answer indicator
                                  lights or use the remote commands to set
                                  it to answer calls.

                                  You have not recorded an outgoing
                                  message.  Record the outgoing message.

The TAD does not record     The message tape is full.  Erase the messages

Recording sound distorted.  You were too close to the microphone or you
                            spoke too loudly when you recorded the outgoing
                            message or memo.  Re-record, speaking from
                            about 12 inches from the front of the TAD.

                            The tape heads are dirty (see "Cleaning the
                            Tape-handling Parts, Faxback Doc. # 18775.

                            The tape is worn out.  Replace the cassette.

You cannot operate the TAD by     You are using a pulse phone.  Use a
remote.                           touchtone phone or pocket tone dialer.

                                  The tone output from the phone or tone
                                  dialer is not long enough.  Use another
                                  phone or dialer.  The phone or pocket
                                  tone dialer must be capable of sending a
                                  continuous tone while you hold down the
                                  button.

                                  You did not correctly enter the remote
                                  operation security code.  Enter the code
                                  within 8 seconds, and make sure you
                                  press the number for at least 2 seconds.

                                  You did not enter a remote command
                                  within 8 seconds after the command
                                  prompt.  (The TAD beeps and hangs up.)
