TAD-518 Dual Cassette Telephone Answering System
(430-0715) Installation Faxback Doc. # 18960

Select a location for the TAD that is out of the way of normal activities
and near a standard AC outlet.

Follow these steps to install the TAD.

1. Turn the supplied cassettes' hubs with a pencil to take up any tape
    slack.

2. Install the MC-20 cassette in the left compartment and the MC-60
cassette in the right compartment. Be sure the open edge of each
cassette is toward the front of the TAD and the full reel is on the
    right.

NOTES: You can buy additional cassettes or cassettes of varying
lengths at your local Radio Shack store.

Replace both tapes at least once a year - more often if they
            are used heavily.

If either tape is broken, the TAD beeps continuously, and the
LED indicator flashes. To turn off the continuous beeping and
the flashing LED indicator, disconnect power, replace the tape,
            then reconnect power.

3. Disconnect your phone from the modular phone line jack and reconnect it
to the PHONE jack and reconnect it to the PHONE jack on the back of the
    TAD.

4. Insert the TAD's modular plug into a modular phone line jack.

Your TAD connects directly to a modular telephone line jack. If the
phone line jack is not a modular jack, you must update the wiring. You
can convert the wiring yourself, using jacks and adapters available at
your local Radio Shack store. Or, you can let the phone company update
    the wiring for you.

The phone company will charge you for the installation of the necessary
    jacks.

The USOC number of the jack to be installed is RJK11C.

5. Plug the supplied AC adapter into the TAD's POWER ADAPTER jack. Then
plug the adapter into a standard AC outlet.

CAUTION: You must use a 120V AC/9V AC adapter that delivers at least 500
milliamps. Its plug must correctly fit the TAD's POWER ADAPTER
jack. The supplied adapter meets these requirements. Using an
adapter that does not meet these requirements could damage the
          TAD or the adapter.

When you connect AC power, the TAD automatically checks for an
outgoing announcement on the MC-20 tape. If there is no
announcement, the TAD beeps and the indicator flashes until you
record an announcement,. See "Recording the Outgoing
          Announcements."

If there is an announcement, the TAD rewinds the tape to the
          beginning of the first announcement.
