TAD-518 Dual Cassette Telephone Answering System (430-0715) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 18961 Complete the procedures in this section before you set the TAD to answer calls. RECORDING THE OUTGOING ANNOUNCEMENTS You can record two different outgoing announcements. Before you can set the TAD to answer calls and record messages, you must record the announcement that the caller hears when the TAD answers a call. In the announcement, ask for the caller's name, phone number, and message. CAUTION: Do not tell callers that you are away. Instead, say that you cannot come to the phone. You can also record a second announcement that plays when the message tape is full or when the TAD is set to the announcement- only mode (see "Using the Announcement-only Mode"). NOTES: The total time allowed for the two outgoing announcements is about 60 seconds. For example, if your first announcement uses 25 seconds, then the second one can use up to 35 seconds. If you want to change the outgoing message(s): You must re-record the first message before you can change the second. When you re-record the first outgoing announcement, you must also re-record the second or it will be erased. Follow these steps to record the outgoing announcements. 1. Press and hold ANNOUNCE RECORD/PLAY for about 2 seconds until the indicator turns off and the TAD beeps. After the tape is set, the indicator flashes rapidly. 2. Press ANNOUNCE RECORD/PLAY once again; The TAD beeps and begins recording. 3. Speak your announcement in a normal voice about 12 inches from the microphone. 4. When you finish speaking, press ANNOUNCE RECORD/PLAY once more. The TAD beeps twice. Then the indicator flashes rapidly. If you want to record the second announcement, within 5 seconds, continue with Steps 5-7. If you do not want to record the second announcement, wait about 5 seconds. The tape automatically rewinds to the beginning, and the TAD plays the recorded announcement. 5. While the indicator flashes rapidly, press ANNOUNCE RECORD/PLAY again. The TAD beeps. 6. Record your second announcement. Speak in a normal voice about 12 inches from the microphone. NOTE: If the tape reaches 60 seconds (for both messages), the TAD beeps twice and automatically plays the messages. 7. When you finish speaking, press ANNOUNCE RECORD/PLAY one last time. The TAD beeps twice, and the tape automatically rewinds to the beginning. After the tape rewinds, the two announcements play. Bypassing the Outgoing Announcement Callers can stop the outgoing announcement and leave a message immediately. To offer them this option, in your outgoing announcement, instruct callers to press 2 to stop the announcement. Checking the Outgoing Announcements You can press ANNOUNCE RECORD/PLAY at any time to play the announcements. Adjust VOLUME on the right side of the TAD to a comfortable listening level. After playback, the TAD automatically rewinds the tape. (/all-02/14/96)
