ET-493 Cordless Electronic Telephone (430-0628) Installation Faxback Doc. # 18967 SELECTING A LOCATION You can place the phone on a desk, shelf, or table. Select a location that meets the following requirements: Near an AC outlet Near a modular phone line jack Out of the way of normal activities Away from electrical machinery, electrical appliances, and metal walls or filing cabinets Away from wireless intercoms, security alarms, and room monitors The base's location affects the phone's range. If you have a choice of several locations, try each location to see which one provides the best performance. If the phone line jack is not a modular jack, you must update the wiring. You can convert the wiring yourself, using jacks and adapters available at your local Radio Shack store. Or, you can let the phone company update the wiring for you. NOTE: The phone company will charge you for the installation of the necessary jacks. The phone company will ask you for the USOC number of the jack to be installed. This number is RJ11C for a baseboard jack. CONNECTING THE PHONE After you select a location for the phone, follow these steps to connect it to AC power and to the phone line. 1. Attach the supplied antenna to the handset by screwing the antenna into the hole on top of the handset. 2. Plug one end of the supplied modular cord into the phone line jack on the back of the base. 3. Plug the modular cord's other end into a modular phone line jack. 4. Insert the supplied AC adapter's barrel plug into the DFC 12V jack on the back of the base. 5. Plug the adapter into a standard AC outlet. (/all-02/14/96)
