ET-330 Cordless Electronic Telephone System (430-0267) Operation Faxback Doc. # 19215 Before operating your ET-330, make sure you have completed the necessary steps in "Preparation for Use", Faxback Doc.# , Preparation. MAKING A CALL 1. Fully extend the Handset and Base Unit antennas. 2. Set the READY/OFF switch to READY. 3. Press TALK until the TALK indicator lights. 4. Listen for the dial tone. 5. Press the keys to enter the telephone number you want to call. 6. When the call is over, press HANG-UP until the TALK indicator goes off. Push in the Handset antenna. ANSWERING A CALL Important Note: The READY/OFF switch must be set to READY before you can receive a call. 1. Fully extend the Handset and Base Unit antennas. 2. Press TALK until the TALK indicator lights. 3. Use the Handset as you would a regular telephone. 4. When the call is over, press HANG-UP until the TALK indicator goes off. Push in the Handset antenna. CALLING HINTS Make sure the TALK indicator is on before you put the receiver to your ear. This prevents your receiving a very loud "ring" tone in your ear. If you make an error in dialing or wish to make another call, push HANG-UP until the TALK indicator goes off; then begin with step 2 under "Making a Call," above. If you place the Handset on the Base Unit without pressing HANG-UP, the TALK indicator will go off automatically. Do not set the READY/OFF switch to OFF before hanging up. Otherwise, the phone line will remain active. STORING A TELEPHONE NUMBER IN MEMORY 1. Press TALK until the TALK indicator lights. 2. Press MEMORY. 3. Dial the desired telephone number (up to 10 digits). 4. Press either the A or B key (where you want to store the number). The TALK indicator will go off, indicating that the number is stored. MEMORY-DIALING A TELEPHONE NUMBER 1. Press TALK until the TALK indicator lights. 2. Press the A or B key (where you stored the number you want to memory-dial). Wait for the ET-330 to complete dialing. AUTO DIALING HINTS Any time you assign a number to one of the memory positions (A or B), any previously stored number is erased. If you have an AC power failure or unplug the Base Unit, without a backup battery installed, the memory numbers will be erased (along with the security code). If you want to store a long distance number that has more than 10 digits, such as 1-201-555-1234, do not enter the first digit-1. Then, when dialing out, press 1 before pressing the Memory Key (A or B). USING THE "REDIAL" [#] KEY You may redial the last manually dialed number by pressing REDIAL. This temporary memory will hold up to 15 digits. If you get a busy signal, simply hang up and wait a few minutes; then press TALK until the TALK indicator lights and press REDIAL. The redial memory is not affected by memory-dialed numbers, but the redial memory number is replaced each time you dial a new number manually. USING THE "PAUSE" [*] KEY Some telephone systems, such as in offices, require you to dial a code number and then "pause" for the outside line to connect. When storing a number in memory (or for redial use) you may program this pause by pressing PAUSE in the desired position. Then, when memory- dialing, the ET-330 will stop at the PAUSE entry. Dialing will automatically continue after three seconds. For example, to store 9 (access code) 123-4567 you would press: [9][*][1][2][3][4][5][6][7] NOTE: PAUSE is counted as a digit in memory dialing. USING THE "PRIVACY" KEY You may disconnect the microphone in the Handset, without ending the call, by pressing PRIVACY. As long as you hold this key your callers cannot hear you, but you can still hear them. USING THE INTERCOM FEATURE To call the Base Unit, press and hold CALL on the Handset until someone answers the regular telephone connected to the Base Unit by lifting its receiver and pressing INTERCOM. To call the Handset, press INTERCOM and then CALL on the Base Unit. The person with the Handset may answer by pressing TALK, the same as for an outside telephone call. If you answer an outside call on the regular telephone, you may signal the Handset to join the conversation by pressing CALL. When TALK is pressed on the Handset, the Handset will be on the line with you, like an extension telephone. Make sure the TALK indicator is on before you put the receiver to your ear. This prevents your receiving a very loud "ring" tone in your ear. The ET-330 is designed to signal if an outside call is received during an intercom conversation. The ringer on the Base Unit will sound when this happens. Simply release the INTERCOM button on the Base Unit, by pressing it again, to answer the call. To end an intercom call, release the INTERCOM button on the Base Unit and hang up the regular telephone; press HANG-UP on the Handset. NOTE: The INTERCOM button must be released (pressed again) at the end of intercom use. Your ET-330 and the phone attached to it will not work normally until the INTERCOM button is released. CALL WAITING INSTRUCTIONS Call waiting is a special telephone company service available in some areas. The user can place a call on hold and take a second incoming call by pressing the switch-hook for about one second. Repeating the switch- hook signal allows the user to alternate between calls. The ET-330 has no single key that duplicates the function of the switch- hook on a regular telephone. However, call waiting and other special services requiring a switch-hook signal may be used with the ET-330 by following the instructions below. 1. Press HANG-UP until the TALK indicator goes off. 2. "Immediately" press TALK until the TALK indicator comes on again. Repeat the procedure to alternate between calls. Do not pause between steps 1 and 2 - a pause could disconnect both calls. HINTS FOR BEST RECEPTION The Base Unit of your ET-330 uses the AC power line as part of its antenna system. The Handset picks up signals radiated from the AC power line. The suggestions below let you know what to expect in certain situations. Using the Handset near an AC line, coming from the same distribution transformer that the Base Unit is connected to, will increase range; using it near a line from a different transformer will decrease range. When far away from the Base Unit, keeping the Handset near the AC lines (wall outlets and switches) will improve performance. If you use an extension cord for the Base Unit, the range will be increased. (The cord becomes part of the antenna system.) You must use a 3-wire extension cord. If you are out of range and press TALK, an out of range signal (8 short tones) will sound; move closer to the Base Unit. If you go out of range during a call, the phone line will remain active for about 30 seconds; this gives you time to get in range again. THE FCC WANTS YOU TO KNOW It is very unlikely, but ... if your ET-330 causes problems on the phone line, the telephone company has the right to discontinue your service temporarily. If this happens, the telephone company will notify you and give you a chance to have the problem corrected. Also, the telephone company has the right to change their lines or equipment. If these changes affect your ET-330 or require changes in its connection, the telephone company will notify you in writing, so you can take the steps necessary to ensure uninterrupted telephone service.
