TAD-266 Telephone Answering System (430-0735) Remote Operation Faxback Doc. # 19231 You can turn on the TAD or listen to your messages from almost any touch- tone phone or from a rotary phone if you use a pocket tone-dialer (available at your local Radio Shack store). You must know your TAD's remote operation security code number (marked on the back) to operate it from a remote location. This helps prevent unauthorized use of your TAD. REMOTE ANSWER-ON You can turn on the TAD while you are away from your home or office if: AC power is on. The cassette tape is installed. Follow these steps to turn on the TAD from a remote location. 1. Call your telephone number. The TAD answers after about the tenth ring. The outgoing message plays and the TAD sounds a beep. NOTE: If the TAD answer calls. You can hang up, use its remote features, or leave a message. 2. The TAD is now set to answer calls. You can hang up, use its remote features, or leave a message. TOLLSAVER If there are no messages recorded or tape, the TAD answers after 4 rings. After the TAD records a message, it answers all other calls after 2 rings. This lets you avoid unnecessary toll charges when you call by long distance to check your messages. If you hear more than 2 rings, you know there are no messages. You can hang up so you will not be charged for the call. REMOTE PLAYBACK To operate the TAD from a remote location, follow these steps. 1. Dial your phone number. The outgoing message plays. NOTE: If the TAD does not answer until after about 10 rings, it is not set to answer calls. See "Remote Answer-On" (ABOVE) to turn the TAD on. 2. Press and hold the number of your remote operation security code for at least 2 seconds while the outgoing message plays. The TAD stops playing the outgoing message beeps twice, rewinds the tape, and plays back any recorded incoming messages. 3. After it plays back all the incoming messages, the TAD sounds two beeps. To play back the incoming messages again, enter the remote operation security code within 8 seconds after the two beeps. NOTE: If you do not enter the remote code within 8 seconds, the TAD hangs up. 4. To end remote operation, hang up the phone. The TAD automatically saves all the messages and resets to answer calls. LIGHTNING Your TAD has built-in protection circuits to reduce the risk of damage from surges in phone line current. These protection circuits meet or exceed FCC requirements. However, lightning striking the phone lines can damage your TAD. Lightning damage is not common. Nevertheless, if you live in an area that has severe electrical storms, we recommend that you unplug your TAD during storms to reduce the possibility of damage. (JC 1/2/96)
