ET-181 Two-Line Desk Telephone (430-0470) Operation Faxback Doc. # 19479 Making a Call Follow these steps to make a call. 1. Be sure TONE/PULSE is set for the line you are going to use. 2. Lift the handset and press either line button. (If a line button is pressed and you want to use that line, simply lift the handset.) 3. Dial the number. To end a call, hang up the handset. NOTE: Pressing another line button (without pressing HOLD) disconnects the current call. Answering a Call When a line rings, the indicator above the line button flashes. Line 1 has a lower pitched ring than Line 2. Press the line button that corresponds to the flashing indicator and lift the handset. The indicator turns off. To end the call, hang up the handset. Using Hold To place a call on hold, press HOLD during the call. The indicator for the line that is in use lights steadily to indicate that the line is on hold. The line button pops up. To return to the call, press the line button. NOTE: You can place the handset on the cradle after you press HOLD. If you want to put the current line on hold and use the other line, press HOLD during the first call. Then press the other line button and place a call or talk to the party on that line. You can put the second call on hold by pressing HOLD again. To release a call from hold, with the handset off the hook, press the line button of the call on hold. Redialing To automatically redial the last number called, lift the handset and select a line by pressing either line button. Then press REDL. The phone redials the number. NOTES: The redial memory holds up to 31 digits. If you dial more than 31 digits, the phone does not store any numbers in the redial memory. If you enter any digits after the phone finishes redialing, the phone adds these digits to the redial memory, up to 31 digits. You replace the redial memory each time you dial a different number on either line. When the phone redials, it uses the mode (tone/pulse) in which the number was entered, regardless of the current mode setting. For example, if you dialed a number in the pulse mode, and then set TONE/PULSE to TONE, the phone redials the number in the pulse mode. You can redial a number on a line other than the one you originally dialed it on if you have the same type service for both lines. To do so, press the other line button. Then press REDL. Using Tone Services with a Pulse Line Some special services, such as long distance or bank-by-phone, require tone signals. If you have a pulse dialing system, you can still use these special tone services as follows. 1. Call the service. 2. When the service answers, set TONE/PULSE to TONE. 3. Follow the normal procedure for the service. The phone sends tone signals for any additional numbers you enter. 4. When you finish the call, set TONE/PULSE back to PULSE. If you have problems, check the phone line and handset connections and all switch settings.
