RECORDING OUTGOING MESSAGES Before you can set the TAD to answer calls, you must record the outgoing message the caller hears when the TAD answers a call. The TAD can record two kinds of messages, Pressing ANNC 1 records the outgoing message callers hear when the TAD is set to the answer-record mode. Pressing ANNC 2 records the message callers hear when the TAD is set to the announcement- only mode. NOTES: The maximum outgoing message length for each message is 30 seconds. As you record, the display shows the elapsed seconds. Recording the ANNC 1 Message 1. Press and hold down ANNC 1 until the TAD beeps 2. Speak in a normal voice about 8 inches away from the microphone (located on the front of the TAD). Ask for the caller's name, phone number, and message. IMPORTANT: Do not tell callers that you are not home. Instead, say that you cannot come to the phone right now. Recording the ANNC 2 Message You can also set the TAD to make an announcement only, without recording incoming messages. This is useful for announcing information about an upcoming event. Be sure the announcement clearly states that the caller cannot leave a message. 1. Press and hold down ANNC 2 until the TAD beeps. 2. Speak in a normal voice about 8 inches away from the microphone. 3. When you finish recording, press STOP until the TAD beeps. The TAD automatically repeats the outgoing message so you can verify it. Adjust VOLUME at the right side of the TAD to the desired listening level. 4. To play back your announcement-only message at any time, press ANNC 2, A2 appears. The TAD beeps, and the announcement-only message plays. SETTING RING SELECT 2/4/TS RING SELECT 2/4/TS on the left side of the TAD controls how long the TAD waits before it answers a call. 2 - The TAD answers after two rings. 4 - The TAD answers after four rings. TS (Toll Saver) - If there are no messages, the TAD answers after four rings. Otherwise, the TAD answers after about two rings. This lets you avoid unnecessary toll charges when calling by long-distance to check you messages. If you hear more than two rings, the TAD has no messages. Hang up so you will not be charged for the call. (EB 1/8/96)
