As long as you have batteries installed, memory is protected, even if AC power fails or the AC plug is disconnected. (Of course the batteries should be good - fresh batteries will last about a year.) USING THE DUOFONE-100 This section gives you more detailed information on using your DUOFONE-100. The Summary of Operations provided just a simple outline of use -- this section will give more details and notes. The DUOFONE-100 automatically turns on when the AC Power Cord is plugged into the AC outlet. Now you are ready to enter a phone number! ENTERING A PHONE NUMBER To help you understand how to enter a phone number, we'll give you a typical example. (The DUOFONE does not need to be connected to the phone lines when you are programming it; nor do you need to have the phone off the hook.) Up to 16 numbers (each number up to 15 digits) can be stored in the memory. NOTE: Phone numbers longer than 15 digits can be entered by sacrificing the total number than can be stored. See below. TO STORE A NUMBER 1. Press [ENTER]. 2. Make sure the Dialing/Store indicator is blinking. 3. Using the number Keys ([1]~[0]), enter the desired number. 4. Press [STORE]. 5. Press the number Key which you wish to use as the memory location. If you make a mistake while entering a number, just press [CANCEL] and restart from step 1. Press Comments [ENTER] Memory is made ready. (Dialing/Store indicator blinks.) [1 2 3 4 5 6 7] Enter the phone number. (Blinking of Dialing/Store indicator stops.) [STORE] Memory is prepared. [Number Key] Choose one of the [0] ~ [16] Keys. (The number is stored in that memory number and the Dialing/Store indicator flickers.) [CANCEL] Return to Automatic Dialer Function mode. (Dialing/Store indicator goes out.) To continue storing numbers in the memory (up to a total of 16) follow steps 2-5 above until all 16 positions are filled. Don't forget to make a note of which numbers are stored at each position. We've provided labels for this purpose. NOTE: While the Dialing/Store indicator is lit, you cannot dial out with the DUOFONE-100. TO AUTO-DIAL THE NUMBER To prevent dialing out of numbers while experimenting and/or programming the DUOFONE, we recommend that you disconnect it from the phone lines. Press the number Key you want dialed. NOTE: It will take a few seconds for your DUOFONE-100 to dial out the number. A flashing Dialing/Store Indicator indicates your unit is a dialing the number. After pressing [CANCEL] or any number Key, the Dialing/Store indicator always returns automatically to the Automatic Dialer function. Notice that as each digit is being dialed-out, it will flash on and off. TO STOP AUTO DIALING AUTOdialing can be stopped at any point by pressing [CANCEL]. (This will not disturb the numbers in the memory.) ENTERING A NUMBER WITH MORE THAN 7 DIGITS If you're using your DUOFONE-100 in an office that requires an access code for outside calls, you'll need to enter a longer number. Here's an example: Entering 9-1-312-135-7912 in memory [1]. Press Comments [ENTER] Prepares the unit to store a number. [9] Enters outside line access code. NOTE: A pause can be inserted here - see next below. [1] Enters long distance prefix. 312 Enters area code. 1357912 Enters 7-digit phone number. [STORE] Memory is prepared. [1] Store the entire number in memory [1]. [CANCEL] Returns to Automatic Dialer Function mode. Phone numbers of up to 15 digits are stored in the same way. ADDING PAUSE TO A PHONE NUMBER There are two lengths of pause. With AUTO/MANUAL in MANUAL position, and AUTOdialing a number which contains a Pause, the DUOFONE-100 will stop dialing when it comes to the Pause. To continue AUTOdialing, press (only at the time of PAUSE) the memory location key again. When you use AUTO position of AUTO/MANUAL during AUTOdialing the DUOFONE-100 automatically pauses for about three seconds and then continues. )This automatic pause may be necessary for accessing outside exchanges.) Example: Press Comments [ENTER] Prepares the unit to store a number. [9] Enters outside line access code. [11] Adds pause (to allow outside line to connect). [1234567] Enters phone number. [STORE] Memory is prepared. [1] Store the entire number in memory [1]. [CANCEL] Returns to Automatic Dialer Function mode. CAUTION: When AUTOdialing a number which contains a Pause, the DUOFONE-100 will stop dialing when it comes to the Pause if the AUTO/MANUAL Selector Switch is in MANUAL position. If you hang up the handset in this state, autodialing starts from the number after PAUSE next time you press the same memory location Key. Press [CANCEL] and re-dial. ENTERING A PHONE NUMBER WITH MORE THAN 15 DIGITS Lets try an example: Say you want to call a business associate in Tokyo, Japan (assuming your telephone system permits direct-dialing of overseas numbers). The number is 011-81-0424-833111. You must also access an outside line and then proceed with "1+" dialing. Set AUTO/MANUAL to AUTO position. Press Comments [ENTER] Prepares the unit to store a number. [9] Enters outside line access code. [11] Enters Pause (to allow outside line to connect). [1] Enters "1" for "1+" dialing. [011] Enters international access code. [STORE] Memory is prepared. [1] Stores the access code, Pause, 1 and international access code in memory [1]. [ENTER] Prepares another memory for storage. [81] Enters code for Japan. [0424] Enters area code. [833111] Enters the exchange and number. [STORE] Memory is prepared. [2] Store the second portion of the number in memory [2]. [CANCEL] Returns to Automatic Dialer Function mode. To AUTOdial the number, press [1]; when the dialing of [1] has ended, press [2]. USING THE LABELS We've included a set of labels so you can record the names associated with the phone numbers you've programmed. After you've become familiar with your DUOFONE-100 and its functions, you'll want to enter the names for the numbers stored. Lift up the label cover. List the names on the label provided. We suggest you use pencil so that you can erase and re-write when you change a number in memory. Be sure you write in the correct space. (CS 1/22/96)
