ET-207 Amplified Big-Button Telephone (430-0806) Operation Faxback Doc. # 31225 SETTING THE TONE/PULSE SWITCH If you presently have touch-tone service, set the switch to TONE. For rotary service, set it to PULSE. If you are not sure which setting to use, follow the steps below: 1. Set the switch to TONE. 2. Lift the handset, and listen for a dial tone. 3. Press any number key other than 0. If the dial tone continues, move the switch to PULSE. If the tone stops after you press the number key, leave the switch on TONE. SETTING THE RINGER OFF/LO/HI SWITCH The RINGER OFF/LO/HI switch enables you to set the electronic ringer to a comfortable sound level. Set the switch to HI for a noisy environment, such as the kitchen or activity room. Set the switch to LO for a quiet atmosphere, such as a bedroom. Set the switch to OFF to silence the ringer so you are not disturbed by incoming calls. You can still make outgoing calls. If you hear an extension phone ringing, you can answer incoming calls. USING THE AMPLIFIER 1. Pick up the handset so you can hear the dial tone. 2. Press AMPLIFIER. The amplifier indicator lights and the dial tone volume increases slightly. 3. Turn AMP VOLUME on the right side of the telephone to adjust the volume level. 4. Turn the amplifier off by pressing AMPLIFIER or by placing the handset in its cradle. USING HOLD HOLD allows you to hang up the handset without ending the phone call. The hold indicator lights when your call is on hold. To put a call on hold, press HOLD. The hold indicator lights. To continue the conversation from the same telephone, pick up its handset. To continue the conversation from another phone, simply pick up the handset from another phone on the same line. HOLD automatically releases. Note: If you do not return the handset to the cradle when you place a call on hold, you might faintly hear the other party but they cannot hear you. The indicator shows that the call is still on hold. To release the hold, press and release the switchhook. USING TONE SERVICES WITH A PULSE LINE Some special services, such as bank-by-phone, require tone signals. If you have pulse service, you can still use special tone services by following these steps. 1. Be sure TONE/PULSE is set to PULSE. 2. Call the service. 3. When the service answers, set TONE/PULSE to TONE. 4. Follow the normal procedures for the service you are using. Any additional numbers dialed are sent as tone signals. 5. When you complete the call, set TONE/PULSE back to PULSE and hang up. The following is an alternate method to access special service using a pulse line: 1. Be sure TONE/PULSE is set to PULSE. Then dial the number of the special service. 2. When the service answers with a second dial tone, press and release *. Any additional numbers you dial produce tone signals. 3. Follow the special service's dialing procedures. 4. When you complete the call, hang up the handset. Your phone automatically returns to pulse (since TONE/PULSE is still set to PULSE). USING THE * AND # BUTTONS You use * and # in tone mode with some special services. Check with your telephone company or special service provider, such as bank-by-phone, for these function keys. You use * in pulse mode to produce tone signals for some special services, see "Using Tone Service with a Pulse Line," below. NOTE: The # button has no function in the pulse mode. USING REDIAL Each time you dial a number, the telephone stores that number in a temporary memory. If you want to call the last number dialed, lift the handset and press REDIAL. NOTE: If you do not return the handset to the cradle, the phone hangs up and then redials automatically after a short time. The redial memory stores up to 32 digits, so you can redial long-distance as well as local numbers. Using Redial for Tone Services on a Pulse Line If you redial a number that includes a change from pulse to tone dialing, you can still use REDIAL. The phone automatically dials the pulse numbers followed by 2.2 seconds of a dial tone, then changes to tone dialing and dials the tone numbers. (CS 3/14/96)
