CONNECTING TO THE PHONE LINE

Follow these steps to connect the phone to a modular jack.

1.  Plug the supplied phone cord into the jack on the bottom of the phone.

2.  Guide the phone cord through the groove next to the jack on the bottom
    of the phone.

3.  Plug the other end of the cord into the modular jack.

NOTES:  If you do not have a modular phone jack, you can either update the 
        wiring yourself or the phone company can update it for you.  Radio
        Shack stores sell the jack and adapters necessary to convert from
        older wiring methods to modular wiring.

        The telephone company will charge you for the installation of
        necessary jacks.  The telephone company will ask you for the USOC
        number of the jacks to be installed.  This number is RJ11C.

SETTING THE TONE/PULSE SWITCH

Set TONE/PULSE for the type of service you have.  If you are not sure which
type of service you have, follow these steps.

1.  Set TONE/PULSE to TONE.

2.  Lift the phone and listen for a dial tone.

3.  Press any number other than 0.

    If the dial tone stops, you have touch-tone service.  If the dial tone
    continues, you have pulse service.

4.  If you have pulse service, set TONE/PULSE to PULSE.  If you have tone
    service, leave TONE/PULSE set to TONE.

NOTE:  The # button has no function in the pulse mode.

SETTING THE RINGER SWITCH

Your telephone has a RINGER ON/OFF switch on the right side.  Set the
ringer to OFF if you do not want the ringer to sound.  You can still answer
the phone if you hear an extension phone ringing, and you can still make
calls.
